$50K-$60K CAD with an estimated range of 400 kms. One thing to note, EV manufacturers typically quote city mileage under perfect weather conditions. That range 400 kms can be reduced by as much as 50% in winter, highway driving.

Future only for the rich. This is the more realistic future for the
peasants.

If only it was true. Canada will never - at least not in our lifetimes - get a functional public transit system.

If you want to know the meaning and the utility of the roof top solar panels listen to Rogan/Musk podcast.

How many hours of sunshine it takes to fully charge the
battery?
Musk said that the new Tesla pick up will come with solar supplemental charging that will add about 15 miles/day. But, the panel on the pick up is massive- 3-6 times larger than the vehicle in this thread. The solar power production is limited by the size of the panels and they can only produce so much energy per square foot.

So I guess you have to leave the car sun bathing on the driveway
for a week or so to charge it sufficiently for a 100 miles trip. Not
bad as a car for occasional short range driving.

Great if you don't park your car in a garage/condo-apartment underground or if your driveway is shaded by trees/buildings a lot of the time. If you park outside in the winter, I wonder how much of the range is used up heating the panels to remove snow and ice?

These things sound great in practices, but they're almost irrelevant in the grand scheme of things. Like people who say wind and solar power is the future. Nope, it's simply not reliable.

It only adds a supplemental charge. The article says it will add about 1500 miles per year. It’s still a plug in.

Still not bad for just showing up at the party.

I bet this thing doesn't have a heated steering wheel and possibly even no heated seats. So not fun to drive neither in the winter nor in the summer.

I will take that bet. Almost all EV's have heated steering wheel and heated seats, I believe to save on general heating of the cabin.

Heating the mirrors, steering wheel, seats and cabin air in the winter sucks a lot of range from the batteries in the winter months. The colder the temperature, the less the range. Plus batteries don't like the cold to begin with. Whereas it takes almost nothing to heat the cabin in an ICE vehicle as there's an unlimited supply of hot water from the engine.

While I am not buying an EV anytime soon, it is not the range for normal driving that is holding me back. I would be just fine with the normal range of 400km, even if it is reduced during a cold spell.

Tesla use simple electric heating, but other EV's have a heat pump.
