Depending on your price range, Samsung is highly rated. Sharp's mid-low range models stack up well. You could go cheap and get a no name brand, just be prepared to replace it sooner.

Costco has great prices on some of the current stuff.

Also try eoutletcanada.com

Good Luck

Don't buy a LG...that's my advice...bought a 42" and have had nothing but problems. I'll have to agree that Costco would be your best bet for warranty and return policy...Don't even consider Futureshop and Bestbuy...and soon as 30 days are up they won't help you out one bit.

With all due respect I would avoid Bestbuy like a plague. Is it just me or have others encountered the same BS service from Bestbuy? Sorry to hijack (I should start another topic) but any other horror stories from bestbuy?
what horror stories? They are a retailer, you buy a product, you take it home. They have no control over the quality of the product and don't they have a no questions asked return policy? (within time restraints that is).

I find most of the time when people have problems with retailers it is due to some mistake on their part: they don't read the policy, they lose their receipt, etc etc.

As stated, there are more than a few detailed threads here in regards to flat panel tvs.....

Local sports bar put in 4 LG flat screens in 07. One of them the colour is shot, two others have intermittent picture problems. One looks great all the time.

More to the story than I can discuss here...believe me....in my case they were 100% at fault!!

More bestbuy complaints!

Tried to post a link, doesn't work for some reason, but kanada2012 posted that he had problems with bestbuy too!! I'm sure there's more unhappy customers out there!

Just a side bar comment.

The 2160 line resolution TV is in the final stages of refinement. Expect it here within the next three to five years.

Flatscreens are starting to sound like PC's. Upgrade every couple of years.

...:)

ok but what programming is going to be carried with 2160 resolution within that 3 to 5 years? thats easily answered, very few to none. The broadcasting stations are just getting around to broadcasting in 1080 nevermind anything further than that.

2160 resolution!?! Wow, that's sick! And probably a sick price too for the early adopters.

Totally agree.

My tech laughs when Bell says it has 100 HD channels. Oh it's true but how many programs are actually in HD?

that is one of my biggest beefs with HBO Canada. About 30% of the time, their programming is in 4:3 format and while it is clear, it isn't HD. Same as TMN and others, they often release a movie only in SD not HD.

I don't mean to hijack the thread, but I think my question is somewhat related, so I'll post.. Out of the following TVs, which should I go for?
55 inch XBR8, 58 inch Panasonic v10, 60 in Pioneer Kuro either 141FD or 600M (but oh man Pioneer TVs are so expansive).
