? for the serious IT security guys out there

Hey guys and ladies.

I would like to know what are all of you're thoughts on the PGP software for data security.

A couple of months ago a user said that it isn't that secure and I asked him for his proof and his thoughts on this and he never replied. So I'm opening this up for the guys which deal in custom software/programmer and IT security sector
which work within this type of industry any type of encryption software out there. Please let me know what avenues you all have used and success rate.

Thank You.

PGP is the grand-daddy of personal encryption. This little gem brought government level encryption to the masses. For a time being (not sure now) it was illegal for "those unwelcome nations" to download and use this software.

Not sure what you want to do with this software but the encryption is as good as any other these days and based on standards. If PGP is assumed unsecure, then so is any browser security, any VPN security, since its all based on the same / similar encryption standards.

Possibly the comments were related to specific use of PGP Desktop software and not the security level itself? Have a look at an official review. http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,1861837,00.asp

My 2 cents.

I've been in the IT industry since 1980. I've come to the realization that most users are full of S**T. They like to hear themselves talk and they try to impress the non-IT folk at the office. When they say stuff like this to IT people and are then challenged, they run away.

Good Morning,

Well, thanks for you're response. PGP has been around for years and I believe at this time it is still unbreakable by the US. As most people don't know that most encryrtion software out there the US goverment requires that company to send them the codeing to crack it because of national security issues.

FL: I understand what you're saying. Most time I just brush it off and when it come to implement the subject, their brain seem to go in shutdown sequence. I'm young and I'm still learning as I go, and I even learn from my staff, and it is all good for me as we all both share trade secrets. Sometimes you almost want to tell them on the spot they are full of shit, but most times it is no the right time.

Nothing is unbreakable. The best that can be hoped for is that it takes the CIA/NSA/SIS long enough to break it so that the information is no longer going to cause a problem for the person/group doing the encryption.
