Immigrants.....Yea or Nay
While I agree with all the previous posts that this country is the way it is because of those who have immigrated here.
I disagree with those who come here and bring their countries beliefs and laws with them and feel that, as a result, they are above our laws.
While Canada is considered a 'Mosaic' of cultures and we allow individuals to practice their own religous and cultural beliefs there has to be limitations.
When a man can kill his wife for allowing another man into their home and get off with a 'slap on the wrist' because his culture allows him to behave in such a manner, the liberty's of an individual have exceeded those of society.
Personally, my message to those who come here would be something along the following:
"We welcome you to our country with open arms. We will, to the best of our ability respect your culture and it's beliefs. Should those beliefs result in actions that we, as a society/country, find unacceptable you will be subject to the laws of our land."
If we as Canadians must abide by the, sometimes ridiculous by our standards, laws of other nations then are we so out of line to expect the same????????
