As White points out, they aren't even bothering with the fig leaf of "he committed a crime at the protest".
This is straight up, "we can deport you for protesting us, even if you have the legal right to live here".

"The responsibilities of Department of Justice attorneys include not only aggressively enforcing criminal and civil laws enacted by Congress, but also vigorously defending presidential policies and actions against legal challenges on behalf of the United States."
Basically, who we determine are enemies, for whatever reason, are enemies and need to be dealt with, the way we say they need to be dealt with.
While they push this the MAGA press will tirelessly work to spin this as "patriotic" and "nationalistic".
I remember reading a comment online on a different forum from a MAGA supporter a while ago, who said that first generation naturalized citizens, should not have the right to vote.
They always talk about freedoms but it is really about taking away freedoms from people they don't like or are opposed to them.

Sadly, that has been the case for a long time.
It's why the first amendment was written and why so many other democracies included some version of freedom of speech in their constitutions.
The natural human tendency is to not want to grant it to people you disagree with.
Trump and MAGA are explicitly leaning into that ugly tendency.
