German dentist extracts payment from patient

A German dentist overpowered a female patient in her home and yanked out two dental bridges from her mouth because she had failed to pay her bill.

The dentist from the Bavarian town of Neu-Ulm is now under investigation for assault and theft after arriving at the woman's home with his medical instruments to perform the unwanted surgery.

According to police, the dentist knocked on the door of the 35-year-old woman on Monday evening and without saying a word forced her into her living room and tied her hands.

In a scene reminiscent of the movie Marathon Man, he then forced open her mouth and removed the £320 worth of dental work which the woman's insurance company had refused to pay.

According to the victim, he never said a word.

"The dentist is being investigated for assault for the way he forced open her mouth, and theft for taking the bridges," said Christian Owsinski a police spokesman.

"The woman was in pain when she showed up at the police station."

Mr Owsinski said the dentist, who has not been named, had not been arrested.

If convicted he could face discipline from both the health insurance company and the dental association that could jeopardise his practice.

For the...

...love of God.

Why has he not been arrested?

I assume this woman has no husband, serious BF or brothers to kick this guys ass from here to Berlin...

My mind literally cannot completely grasp this...

Really?

I can.

She stiffed him and he was pissed off. It's quite simple really. He probably called her 10 times and she refused to pay, saying it was a problem with her insurance, to take it up with them, blah blah blah.

He figured fine, you don't want to pay, I'm going to repossess my work.

She should have paid him herself and taken up the issue with her insurance company. (No insurance company ever wants to pay for Dental work.)

I'm not saying he was right. But I understand.

...it was a MEDICAL PROCEDURE.

No, I don't understand. He shouldn't be allowed to touch another human being in the practice of medicine if this is his attitude about it.

I once worked with a guy who was a former finance/loan company manager - he actually repossessed someone's set of false teeth (which were financed by their loan) and had them sitting on his desk! He joked and thought that it was a very effective collection technique - apparently the lady came back within two weeks and paid the loan off to get her teeth back! She was probably a few pound slighter as well....

He should have gone after the assessor.
I don't know about Germany, but in Canada, the deal is between YOU and your Dentist.

My insurance company (Sunlife) should they choose to reimburse me for Dental Work (which they seldom want to do) they refund me (usually pennies on the dollar).

I pay the Dentist, Sunlife pays me back.

There are certain things Insurance Plans don't cover (like pretty much everything). If I want that work done, I have to pay.

WRONG. The dentist does work for the patient, not the ins. co.. It's the persons problem.

Yeah, but you're implying that this dentist didn't make her pay up front first? I don't know of any dentist who would do that, unless they were damn sure insurance would pay.
My dentist does, but I've been a patient for a goodly number of years and have never given them any trouble, so YMMV. :)
