Tom Cruise's latest film, Valkyrie, will not be shot in Germany. The nation has seen fit to ban production of the film in Germany due to Mr. Cruise's public connection to the Church of Scientology. In Germany, Scientology does not have official religious status and is seen as a money making cult.
The film Valkyrie, deals with the July 20 1944 plot to assassinate Adolf Hitler. Tom Cruise will play the part of plot leader Colonel Klaus von Stauffenburg. It seems that the ban was issued partially at the behest of the Bundeswehr (Germany military) who would like to see Stauffenburg's life portrayed in an honest and facual manner - they weren't thrilled with the costume drama Cruise was proposing.
My hunch is that someone in the Bundeswehr say Born on the 4th July.
