Getting rid of SPAM in HOTMAIL..???! *crosses fingers**

S

sara@select

Thought I should give this it's own thread...this one's for you eggman! ;)
Did you know that about 2 months ago MSN added 2 little boxes in all the profiles? These boxes if marked share your email with other users. One box, if ticked, gives other people the right to see your information including your address. Now MSN has taken all the passports that were created before they added this and marked YES!SHARE MY INFORMATION and did not tell anyone.
Lets keep our information safe and out of the hands of just
anyone!!!!!

HOW to remove your name: sign into your email account (for those with more then 1 you have to do it for all of them), click on
Options then Personal Profile and scroll to the bottom ... u will
see the TWO added boxes - remove the check marks and finish up. PLZ
FWD this to everyone who has hotmail - lets not wait until it is
too late (this may decrease all that junk mail that seems to have
double lately)"
**Seems to be working thus far for me......**

President - No Way !

My feeling is queen. . Laying on a Caribbean island being fanned and being fed grape (seedless of course) while receiving a manicure and pedicure would be more appropriate.

Maybe my experience with Select was a little too good. :)

A better way to can the SPAM.

Following Sara's advice alone did not stop the barrage of garbage that filled my Inbox and my JunkMail every day. What I found effective, though time consuming to do is to :

Go to OPTIONS and select Custom Filters

- This brings up a page of 8 or 10 selection boxes where, for each word you have:

- a) a box in which you can type the word for which you want HotMail to scan in the Subject line of the e-mail. and:

- b) three choices to select for the action to take on that word e.g. for viagra, which is one of the most flagrant offenders - "If the "Subject" "contains" viagra then Deliver to "Trash Can".

- c) a box to click to enable the new filter you have created.

I ended up having to add over 30 words but I have finally got rid of almost all garbage. This morning I had only 1 in the Inbox and 3 in the JunkMail, whereas before I'd have 8-10 in the Inbox and 15-30 in JunkMail. If I didn't check for a few days I'd have several pages of junk.

I would pick out the persistent words like viagra, big, bigger, sex, britney, debt, lose, %, loan etc. Next day I'd notice a reduction but in the mesages I did get I'd find some new words to add to my list.

Unfortunately once you've used the initial allotted filters (8 or 10) then when you go back to Custom Filters" it only adds one new choice each time, so somedays I had to repeatedly go back to Custom Filters again and again, but it has been worth it.

Some messages have no subject and I allowed one box to remain blank to take care of that. Since then I have not received any "blank" subject but that may be just a co-incidence.

P.S. Don't forget to click enable like I did, or you'll still end up as a garbage collector!

There seems to be a limit on filters

I have had to do some tweaking too as I found that there seems to be limit of 36 filters.

I also found that leaving one filter blank to catch those with no subject line didn't work as next time I went in to add a filter that one came back as not being enabled.
