A Powerful Poem
It was late one Tuesday evening,
Before a mother could sit down,
To tell her only child about
The terror that hit downtown.

She looked into the eyes of her son
God, she loved him so,
She felt her heart begin to break
And the hurt begin to show.

She gathered all her strength and courage,
as her story she began to tell.
"Baby don't cry, but I'm afraid daddy
Might be under a building that fell."

The boy looked back at his mother,
His eyes made not one blink.
And the mother's tears began to fall.
What would her baby think?

You see, his dad was his world,
And his hero from the day of his birth.
He loved his dad more than anything else
That could ever inherit this earth.

The mother's head began to drop,
Her forehead resting on palm.
She thought her son would be upset.
Instead, he was very calm.

The boy leaned over towards his Mom,
And put his hand upon her head.
In her ear he began to whisper,
And this is what he said:

"Mommy please don't cry,
I knew daddy wasn't coming home.
I talked to him just a while ago,
But it wasn't on the phone.

He told me that he loved me,
And he promised we'd meet again.
He told of his new home,
And the job he was to begin."

"God is building an army,
And there are many angels needed.
That, is where daddy and the others went.
They weren't all defeated."

It was then, the mother lifted her head.
The tears streamed down her face.
And she could feel her husband's presence,
As it filled her heart with grace.

It was then she knew her son was right.
He was in God's great army now.
She also knew her son was safe,
That he'd be kept from harm somehow.

So, evildoers of the world beware.
An army is on the way.
Bolstered by new angels,
Who left the towers that day..

Their commander has never been beaten.
His power has never been matched,
And if evil thinks He was almighty before......
Well, the surface has just been scratched!

Snort, wheeze, giggle!

Vixen:

Egad, your heart may be in the right place but the poem is terrible. The worst sort of sentimentalism. My favourite lines:

"Baby don't cry, but I'm afraid daddy
Might be under a building that fell."

Made me laugh out loud. Pretty damn funny overall. But this person's opinion only. Doubtless Sheik will be moved to tears. LOL

A second thought

If only the kid had had a puppy that perished in the WTC along with the father and if only the puppy had woofed down to the kid from doggie heaven, well then, a great work of art obviously.

Vixen, I for one thought the poem touching. The poet who wrote it obviously cared enough about the tragedy to write it. It is more than I and others have done (besides pray for the people) So, I think it's touching work, that I was happy to read...Princess

Ugh.....

gotta agree 100% with VVV on this one.

No one doubts the dreadful and lifelong impact of last September's tragedy on thousands of people, in particular the thousands of children now missing a parent. No one doubts the emotions anyone with half a heart felt and will continue to feel about these events.

But bad poety is still bad poetry. And this poem ranks up there with the worst of them. A poorly written, maudlin poem using cheap sentimentality to evoke some sort of easy emotional reaction trivializes the reality of such a tragedy. IMHO of course.

Maybe the $2.4 billion raised for victims of the 9-11 attacks should just be used to buy everyone a feel-good Hallmark card and then everything will be just hunky-dory.

I think I'm gonna retch if i see one more of these disgusting and insulting "poems".

later,

Given all the "hype" , you'd think that the WTC bombing was the only tragedy that ever happened. It's really quite small when compared to all the other devastating occurences.

As soon as you have a world with 6 billion plus greedy animals inhabiting the planet, there will be plenty of disasters where 1,000's , 10,000's and even millions will perish. They're all natural , it just depends which natural perpetrator (sp?) will cause the population reduction.

Get used to it !!!

Disregard for human life is simply an extension of humans' self-centred greed and general disregard for any kind of life on this planet.

Just take a look at the experience of history and check out what humans have done to each other not to mention what we have done to our fellow Earth inhabitants.

Where do you think its headed in the long run.

Think about it.

hm

anyone who uses this kind of tradgedy to make polictical statements and to kill innocent people to make its point is a coward and the worst kind of low life possible i wont een call it human...
so i think its very important to keep its memory alive so you dont get desentsitied to it as some people on theis board seem to have..and that is sad beyond belief,... i guess all those poor souls who jumped out of building insteading of burning or being blown up dosnt affect you.. im appalled really.
and those families who have lost loved ones to it and those who still have no closure becuase their loved ones werent found and becuase this inhuman piece of work is still out there... i guess we should not mourn for thm either...
im sorry but it kills me inside to think of what happened on 9-11..and that people just dont seem to care..
so being part american myself i salute the flag and George .W. bush and hope he kicks some ass..

The savagery that man inflicts on his fellow man depresses me and at many times makes me cry.

The WTC tragedy was horrible; but , so are so many other savage acts carried out by many races, governments and companies all over this world and throughout history.

The common denomenator -- HUMAN BEINGS.

I don't think any of these acts, which happen over and over again, are acceptable, and I'm not singling out the Americans ( in this thread).

They( the savage human acts) just ARE !!!

I wonder why ? Think about it.

In the mean time " get used to it "
