Golden Touch Massage - Isn't North York separte from Toronto?

Golden Touch massage website shows an address in North York.

But they also say, "Golden Touch has a Body Rub Parlour License issued by the City of Toronto that is effective until Sept 30th, 2002."

Do they know what city they are in ? Besides obviosly either the website being out of date or the City of Toronto license they discuss has expired long ago!

Or is North York actually part of City of Toronto? Or did Toronto recently annex it? Or did Golden Touch use to be in Toronto but moved to North York and obviously hasn't updated its website.

Old Dave from the U.S. is confused.

A few years ago, a number of the cities in (what was) Metropolitain Toronto were amalgamated into one single city for political and administrative purposes. It was actually quite contraversial here as many people believed (and some still do) that this was a mistake.

North York was a separate municipal entity which was included in the amalgamation so that, technically, there is no longer a city of North York (it is part of Toronto now). However, many people still use the old terminology. Scarborough, East York, and Etobicoke are also no longer independent cities.

Our wildly contriversial Mayor Mel Lastman was actually the Mayor of North York for many many years before the amalgamation and then her won the role of Toronto Mayor when the cities merged.

Thanks for the clear clarification for this foreigner.

They still need to update their TORONTO license info :) But they aren't as confused as I was not knowing the history which you explained so well.

Some businesses still use even older terminology for their business cards...............West Hill, Willowdale, Highland Creek, etc.
