Does anyone have recommendations for a place with *good* ribs in Toronto (416 and 905 areas). I make excellent ribs and have yet to find a dining out place even in the ballpark. I could care less if it is a dive... I just want good, meaty pork back ribs with a sauce with some tang to it (and chains like Tony Roma's are not even worth considering... is Dipamo's any good?).

Thx.

The Steak Pit on Avenue Rd. north of Lawrence makes good ribs. I believe there's also a place called Bill's Pit???? on Jane that has a good rep. I was there once years ago and favour Steak Pit.

If you pick up a rack of ribs from Pusateri's and make 'em yourself, no restaurant will ever match you.

Tony Romas are horrible!

Montanas are'nt to bad depending on which location!,they also are offering all u can eat ribs between Mon-Thurs.

Another good rib place is the Purple Pig! they have won many rib contests all over the states and Canada.
If your around in the summer? , the last weekend of June?they have "Ribfest" at Centennial park in Etobicoke, its an all weekend event with bands and a midway and a rib cookoff between a select bunch of rib joints!

It's quite the shin dig!:p

(and chains like Tony R*ma's are not even worth considering...). Tony R*mas are horrible!.
Recently, I went to the Tony R*ma that is close to the airport to celebrate a friend’s birthday. It wasn’t a busy night and we have a group of people. There was no one at the counter. I saw 6 or 7 waiters & waitresses have walked by us and we were like invisible to them. It took a good 10 minutes before we were shown to our seats. Two orders of ribs were not placed. The waiter was very rude as he kept slamming the dishes down onto the table. The foods were satisfactory but the service was very disappointing.

Good ribs in TO?

Well, I went to DiPamo's a few months back and it was some of the best ribs I've tasted so far! You can cut their meat with a fork! Service felt a bit rushed...was in and out in about an hour...surprising!

Went to the Purple Pig back in early December...a bit more pricey but the food was not as good as with DiPamo's. The portions were very generous and the service was great.

Baton Rouge

Baton Rouge iin Woodbridge ( Weston Rd and Hiway 7) is the best ribs in 905. Very nice family restaurant and cooks over a Hardwood fire.

Betwixt her thighs ideally!
I'm a bit of a rib connoisseur and I agree with the aptly named Sauce. The only ribs I prefer to Jessica's at HFH are those served up at the Red Devil Barbecue and Blues on Duncan! I prefer RD's to either Dipamo's or the Purple Pig's!

Rib fests are a feature in the summer these days! The biggest rib fest in the area is the one held at Burlington's lakefront Spencer Park on Labour Day weekend with twelve competitors! If you like smokey, try Alabama's Ole Camp 31's ribs!

The rib fest in London's Victoria Park over the Civic Holiday weekend in early August features ten competitors and is also well worth attending!

Then there's the ones at St. Lawrence Market, Scarborough Town Centre, Ottawa, Sarnia, Guelph, St. Thomas, etc.!

Now I'm hungry! I think I'll check out Baton Rouge. A full review will be forthcoming!

Thanks for the response all... Foxhound, I would be curious on a comparison of RD vs Dipamo's vs the Purple Pig's (and Jessica while you are at it... I have never been able to make it past Ivannnnnna ;-). As for Kelsey's, I would be shocked if any chain could churn out a quality product... usually the meat tends to be sparse and the sauce overdone and yucky.

I will check out the above three as well as Baton Rouge... hopefully at least one will hit the mark!

I've just returned from supping on ribs at Baton Rouge. Sweetdiane is correct about them being juicy and the meat just about falling off the bone. Nonetheless, I was disappointed overall. The ribs here just don't have enough flavour for my taste despite the fact that the Baton Rouge name conjures up images of spicey Cajun fare! Not only do they lack the rich smokey flavour I prefer, they're not even maple syrupy sweet. They're just bland!

I'll be posting a review of Jessica's ribs and other assorted body parts over on Men Behaving Badly within a week. I may link it but I won't actually post it here on TERB since my reviews have been censored/toned down on this board a couple of times!

BEEF ribs

I know you said pork ribs but for beef ribs I recommend Dangerous Dans at the corner of Queen/Broadview (across from Jillys). They also deliver.

BBQ Sauce

If your looking for a good BBQ or rib sauce, try Jack Daniels BBQ sauce!!
it's sold at all Loblaw's,comes in regular and smokehouse

I think Montanas uses JD sauce on their ribs.

I think the best ribs I've ever had have been at the Brampton Golf Club!!! lol ever since I was a young one, my father would take my bro and I up every thurs, hit a couple of buckets and pig out on ribs!! lol

k time to eat! :p
