Personally, I make a note of places that ask for tips at the debit machine, and I make a point of always paying in cash at those places.

I have been in restaurants and bars where I received crappy service so I didn't tip. Then they try to make you feel like you have to do so. I worked in the service industry for years and if I did a shitty job, I shouldn't be tipped and I understood that. Some people just feel like the world owes them something.

The machines ask how much you would like to tip but there is usually an option of 0 percent....Or an option of declining a tip.
