Anyone had it done? Not those ugly circular plugs from a decade ago that are really obvious. The new technique takes clumps of 1 - 3 hairs at a time and is supposed to be completely unnoticable. I have a full head of hair and an ok hairline, but the density is down and I just want to thicken things out, in anticipation of it being even thinner in 10 years or so. So I'm not worried about people seeing an obvious difference, because the transplanted hair would be mixed in with the forest of existing hair on my crown. I have more than enough money and although most people would think I was nuts to be concerned with my hair, it's something I want to do.

But I'm worried about being ripped off, about the procedure being a scam. The guy I went to see is a Doctor and has been in the biz for a decade, but I'm paranoid nonetheless.

So, to these transplanted hairs really grow and stay in place? Any horror stories? Any success stories?

Thanks kindly.

If you've still got hair up there, try Propecia first. I've been on it since 1998 and the only way to describe it is a miracle drug. Results vary, but I am best case scenario with 95% of my original hair back.

Buy Proscar, the 5 mg tablet (same active ingredient, Finastride) and use a pill cutter to break it into 4's. Cost is about $250 a year through a mail order pharmacy.

I am completely satisfied and highly recommend, and I don't say that too often.

What side effects may occur?

Propecia's side effects are primarily sexual, and relatively uncommon--they strike one or two men in a hundred. If any side effects develop or change in intensity, inform your doctor as soon as possible. Only your doctor can determine if it is safe for you to continue taking Propecia.

Side effects may include:
Breast tenderness and enlargement, decreased amount of semen per ejaculation, decreased sex drive, impotence, itching, rash, swelling, testicular pain

Why is this drug prescribed?

Propecia is a remedy for baldness in men with mild to moderate hair loss on the top of the head and the front of the mid-scalp area. It increases hair growth, improves hair regrowth, and slows down hair loss. It works only on scalp hair and does not affect hair on other parts of the body.

You may begin to see improvement as early as 3 months after you begin taking Propecia, but for many men it takes longer. The improvement lasts only as long as you take the drug; if you stop, new hair growth will cease and hair loss will resume.

Propecia is a low-dose form of Proscar, a drug prescribed for prostate enlargement.
