Almost half the houses on my street had the lights out last night. Some people are so fucking cheap. Back in my day these tightwads would of gotten an egging.

It all depends on your neighbourhood. Do you get 100 children on Halloween or to you get 1,500 children on Halloween? If the former you have a point, if the later (and I know several people in this category) I can entirely understand either going out to dinner or turning the lights off early.

I gave the first kid who came to door my bag of garbage and told him to run that out to the curb will ya.
So then I shut the lights out and watched Beverly Hill Billy reruns and scratched my nuts with a fork while drinking beer. Burp !
Last year I gave out single cigarettes, packs of matches and dixie cups of beer and scotch. Limit 5 cups per kids.

So it's better that people hand out goodies for fear of reprisals?

Actually, that would be better. Problem today is that "Trick or Treat" just doesn't have the menace it used to. In the small (not even a traffic light) town I grew up in, we set the damn bridge on fire, soaped windows, uprooted plants, and generally caused some shit. Nothing injurious, but cheap fuckers knew to be on the lookout.

One old guy just sat in the bushes with the garden hose...

We get about 60 - 70 kids.

We only hand out candy to the little ones. After 8:30, the lights go out.

If any teenagers want candy they can go getting a fuckin job!

Well, it isn't just about being cheap, while I don't have kids else I would be more into it but frankly, I think the whole idea of going door to door begging for sweets more than a little dangerous these days. Not only do you have wackos to worry about but even good people could be giving out tainted candy unknowingly.

I think the idea of having kids dress up etc is great, but maybe having a party or ?? at a local community centre or school is a much better (and safer) idea.

Just for the record I believe halloween is only practised in North America so if anyone has immigrated, they might not practice the tradition.

My girlfriend in Colombia took her 8 year old daughter trick or treating. I think you'd be surprised how widespread Halloween customs have become.

Seems to be a few uptight people in this thread. Halloween is fun, and it's for the kids. Next year, go out and buy some fucking candies and keep your goddamn lights on! (even if it's past your 8pm bed time!). And a pumpkin wouldn't hurt either.

Too fuckin bad for them! They wanted to come to Canada, they're here so get with the program.
Yes, your certainly capture the fun and joy of the occasion.

As you can see from the responses so far there are a lot of miserable kunts in this thread who didn't had out candy or spend 20 minuites carving a fucking pumpkin for the kids grasping at straws to justify their guilt.

Perhaps they themselves had miserable childhoods & never trick or treated.

Lonely assholes.

I'm not miserable or lonely. I actually enjoy the little kids. And yes, I carve a pumpkin too!

I just don't see the point in handing out candy to 16 year olds. If you're 16 years old and running around bumming for candy, you're the one with the problem, not me.

My question is how many of those people sittin in the dark sent out there own kids ? We only got like 6 kids I think mainly due to the fact we have a realy long driveway and are the only house on the street that is set at the back of the property but for those who do venture down they usualy get a good load as we always buy to much. Are kids go out so its only fair we give out....

So, since Canada was founded by catholics, that jews, orthodox, muslims, buddists, everyone should have converted to chirstianity when they arrived here also?

So, in other words, because YOU think they should, anyone who doesn't agree with you is wrong and should change the way they think to suit YOU?

I don't know about you but the Canada I live in is a free country and people are allowed to decide for themselves whether to partake in some traditions without fear of reprisal.....

Actually, Halloween isn't too far off from the central and south american tradition of "day of the dead" I think it's called. (or something to that effect). But they don't have their kids going around extorting candy from their neighbours.

Seems it is a religious thing. Evangelical's and other religious sects don't believe in Halloween, don't shell out, and want the name changed from Halloween to Orange and Black Day.

Even Don Cherry got a jab in last night about those nutbars that want a rename.

I had sooooooooooooo many kids show up. We bought two 125 boxes of mini chocolate bars at a cost of over $25 and ran out with kids still showing up. Started at around 6:30 and by 8:00 we had 250+ kids show up with more coming. After we ran out of candy the lights went off and we ignored the doorbell. If that makes me a scrooge so be it.

Then move there....

However, a few bags of candy costs a lot less.

I've thought about this and I use to side with those about new immigrants and the like. The bottom line is that now, today, it is a CANADIAN tradition, however it's roots began. I am less and less sympathetic with new immigrants who make no effort to absorb CANADIAN traditions and make excuses up not to particpate because they didn't do this or they didn't beleive that where ever they came from. Why come to Canada then?

Seriously, this is why as Canadians we have very few traditions. We've diluted our heritage through cultural ghettos we've created. You would think new immigrants would show some gratitude for Canada's welcome by taking on a couple harmless traditions? Like calling oneself a Canadian without a hyphen would be a good start. I guess that's the price for being the global doormat.
