headphones for my tv with no jack

I have a TV with no headphone jack, that I watch and listen to in bed. It is fed by the video and audio outputs from the cable receiver.

Can I bypass the TV audio input entirely, and some how get or make adapters that will take the audio output from the cable box and connect it directly to a headphone?

I suspect if I drop into Radio Shack - the Source someone there will be able to direct me, but I thought I'd ask here first.
