Well, it was going to snow sooner or later! Driving in to work this morning I was reminded that there are three types of winter drivers... 1 - people who have no idea how to drive in winter conditions. 2 - Assholes (usually driving an SUV or pickup) that don't care if driving conditions are hazardous and drive like it's sunny, perfect visibility, and 30 degrees and 3 - people like me who follow a few simple rules:

1. Give yourself plenty of time to get where you need to be. This might require getting up a little early in the morning to allow extra time for your commute.
2. Try to avoid sudden stops or turns.
3. Remember to signal well in advance so that the driver behind you can prepare for what your doing.
4. Try to be a little extra patient and courteous to drivers that fall into group 1 above.
5. Pray that the assholes in group 2 don't get you killed!

Drive safely!

Of course you already have your snow tires on your ride properly inflated, unlike the vast majority of morons out there.;)

This snow has been great we have all been waiting for it. People in this city make me sick we live in Canada where we get snow, I don't call 2-5 cm a big storem that's 1-2 inches give me a break. Many places in this province get 6" in one snowfall on a regular basis and they can deal with it so surely you folks in the city can deal with 1".

I sincerely hope the #2 drivers realize that those 4x4s only help with traction, getting unstuck, etc.
When they hit the brakes they are like everyone else, only bigger.

Weird trick I learnt last year with my car, as it generates alot of torque. When pulling away from a full stop, turn off the traction control and pop it into second. Less likely for the rear end to break loose doing that.

Personally, I find the first snow fall is the worst, as most people have forgotten how to drive in it.

And I wish the guy in the armoured truck had of done #3 last night. I was passing him, and the bugger tried to change lanes.

I'm not suggesting that this was a particularly bad snow... I agree that it wasn't really much at all. I think, however, one of the problems we face is an increasingly higher number of immigrant drivers who come from countries that never experience any show or freezing rain at all. Maybe it should be a requirement (before getting a Canadian DL) that a winter driving course be taken... not that that would necessarily stop them from driving.

i know plenty of morons born and raised in this country who still drive like the morons they are in snow.... They never learn. Never.

Also.... your snow tires may have worked great last winter... but then you drove like and idiot all summer and fall.... and guess what... they're not going to grip the snow and ice quite the same this year.

Cheers!

Just a little plug for this very subject. Too bad the weather wasn't cooperating the day I went down and it was clear and dry...But did I have a blast learning performance driving instead.

:rolleyes:You drove on your winter tires all year? Not smart, also not cheap. The warm temps chew through those tires like butter. Any money saved from the changeovers is doubled in new tires.

To-day is proof that the male of the specie is not entirely useless, everyone shovelling snow on my street is male (not one female).

And do they have to deal with the volume of traffic as well?

Easy to say "deal with it", not so easy to do it.

Winter was nice to us this year. So far we haven't had anything yet of the typical Canadian winter.

Lets wait and see what its got in stock for us .. I miss that 50 cm snow storm 2 yrs ago. Who else misses it ?
