Hi fellow terbites!!! I need a new bank. This is what happened. I went to the bank today and instead of going to the ATM like usual, I had to go to the teller because I lost my bank card again. Have no clue whatsoever what happened to it, (probably left it in the bank machine like usual), so there I was... lining up like everyone else... it was taking forever... and finally, it's my turn. (Yay!!) So the teller asks me, "how can I help you?" and I go, "I lost my bank card so I need another one." So she asks me for my info, and I give her all my info and then she said REALLY loudly, RIGHT in front of EVERYONE... "Do you know that that's the SEVENTH bank card you lost? What happened to all of them?" And I just went  . I didn't know they keep track of how many times you lose your bank card??!! Like WTF???? Anyways, I was SOOOOO embarrassed, I hung my head and quietly whispered, "um... actually... I'm thinking of maybe closing that bank account instead." So she helped me close my bank account and kicked me, and my pink furry boots, and my $237 out. I can't believe it!!! Maybe if I had more money in there, she would've been a little nicer to me. Anyways, which bank do you bank at and are they any good? Maybe one with nice tellers would be a good idea.

(And I've gotta stop buying all those cute furry boots. They come in 50 different colours and I just HAD to have all of them!! Nope... definitely no more furry boots for me!!! Maybe if I stopped buying them, I'd have more than $237 in the bank!!)

Wow, seven bank cards!
I use TD Canada Trust, and the customer service is pretty good. Most of the tellers are fairly polite, and some are really friendly.

However, I don't know why you withdrew your money. What happened to you could have happened at any good bank, depending on the teller.

It may be better to try to make sure you don't lose your card anymore. :)

Avoid TD Canada Trust at all costs - they suck! :p All the other banks are fine.

I use TD Canada Trust as well, it's a pretty good bank, I have been with them for about 18 years now.

Stinkynuts, I have finally figured out what the hell that is in your picture. Too funny.

Ok.. seriously

Look, don't let bank tellers or anyone else intimidate you. You are the customer. I would have asked to speak to the branch manager and explained your situation; perhaps things could have been resolved a bit more amicably. If ever someone at the bank tries to get flippy with me, I throw it right back in their face- I won't take shit from anyone.

leah_mpa, do you really need to speak to the tellers? If not, I would highly suggest that you open an account with PC Financial. No service charges for anything (deposit or withdrawal thru CIBC ATMs), higher interest on your money and free internet and phone banking. I've had accounts with every single bank in the country and I closed every account because the service was shitty and the service charges were getting ridiculous. In fact, if banks could charge you for the oxygen that you breath as soon as you step into the branch, they would. PC Financial has been very good to me and I've had my account with them for a good 6 years now.

Why don't you switch to a bank that has ATMs that give you the card first then your money. It beeps at you until you take the card, then it spits up the dough. Kind of hard to leave your card in!

Royal bank ATMs do that - but I despise the Royal Bank - so try CIBC or TD Canada Trust. What other ATMs do that...more suggestions anyone?

For general consumer accounts all the banks are pretty much the same. ING and PC Financial may pay a little bit more on interest rates, but let's face it - you won't get rich by piling money into a normal savings account! In terms of service and fees they're all basically the same. If they weren't everyone would flock to one bank and leave the others high & dry.

IMHO you should really just go with the bank that's most convenient to you. Convenience could be defined by physical location of a branch, hours of operation etc.

Having said that, what the teller said was inexcusable. I would have a word with the manager of that particular branch. A letter explaining the circumstances along with the result (closing of an account) would be in order. Such a letter could and should be sent to both the branch manager and the head of customer service of the bank. If you call the 1 800 line of a bank or just surf their website, eventually you can get the name and address of customer service in head office. It may take some time to get a response but I'm fairly certain you will hear back from the bank.

If you're really serious about complaining look up the Office of the Superintendant of Financial Institutions in Ottawa. Note that the OSFI primarily exists to protect Canadian depositors from undue loss so your case is not directly applicable but it would probably still be looked at if you don't get anywhere with the bank.

I'm thinking of making a large deposit at the Sperm Bank.

But I don't think they have automated service.

I believe they do...that would be the Nocturnal Emissions Trust. Also known as the Sticky Sheets Savings and Loan.

Leah, one good thing about getting older is you'll get more respect and better service - it's not fair but part of human nature.
Don't let this comment ruin your day or cause you to change your life. If you liked the bank's location and they've helped you with replacing your card numerous times without a problem then open up another account with them.

Now make a post about your furry boot fetish and see if we can help you overcome it. :p

Let's open up a joint account together and when you lose your card, you can always use mine.

I bank with CIBC, the service is good and they have managed my accounts well over the years. Be careful when setting up an account with a new bank though, seeing as you are young they might try and sell you credit. They sold me credit and now I am tied down to them.
Kacy, now that you've established a credit rating it will be easier to open a more non-traditional account, say at a credit union, where the focus is more on your needs and interests.

And, should the CU be managed well, you get some payback $$$ instead of Bay Street shareholders. Plus, you have a say in the CU operations by attending the annual meeting!!

BTW Leah, I've had that very same bank card problem with my credit union, and when I phone in they're very patient and get a replacement out same day!! At CUs customer service -- and respect!!! -- is paramount.
