by the travel bug that is.

I recently spent a wonderful weekend in Ottawa and am currently making plans for a Kitchener/Waterloo weekend at the beginning of October.

All these arrangements have left me wondering where else could I go for a weekend jaunt? Any suggestions?

Ontario - yours to discover! Lots of neat places to visit, Kingston is a good place and the guys in Belleville are always complaning about the lack of service there. PM if you need more info on that whole area. Above all else have fun in your travels!

A weekend trip.... Stratford, Bayfield, Goderich

If you like quaint, quiet, and very pretty....

Try a weekend (3 days) in Stratford, Goderich, and Bayfield...

One night in Stratford...

- walk the Avon, Shakespeare Gardens, and the gardens near the art gallery
- a night at the theatre
- dinner at the church (5*) better than most in Toronto
- drinks at Bentley's

A day in Goderich
- Shopping on the square, old century homes high on banks of Lake Huron
- walking the beach, and check out by the marina, salt mines, and the breakwaters
- touring the countryside (Auburn, Benmiller, Clinton)
- homemade cream puffs at a small bakery just off the square on the way to the beach (not open Sundays)
- Stop at Benmiller for lunch or stay at the Benmiller Inn overnight

A day in Bayfield
- Stay overnight at The Little Inn (great place good dinner)
- get a whirlpool suite
Walk the small shops on a quiet main street (quaint and 1000x more quiet than Niagara on the Lake)

All only 2.5hrs west of Toronto.

If your going to Kitchener St. Jacobs, I recommend the Best Western St. Jacobs (ask for fireplace rooms on the third floor) or better yet the "honeymoon/executive suite" with the bathtub in the middle of the room by the fireplace and a two person shower...

Have fun!!

A good book full of great places to stay and visit is the loney planet guide to Canada - someone gave me a copy before I came over and I have used it on a number of occassions. It contains names and numbers of some great B&Bs.

I haven't been disappointed yet.

Air Canada has some great last minute seat sales - book on a Thurs. for a 3 day weekend. For example: Labour Day weekend - 3 days, Return Airfare, Hotel, to Washington D.C. - $350. You can go for about the same to New Orleans as well.
