trying to help a family member with their Canon printer. Just replaced the colour cartridge (the other one is basically an empty photo cartridge, but they don't print photos). Did the auto head alignment. But when we try to print text, it comes out grayish and not dark. Did print test pages and there are no faded white lines/streaks indicating that there is any clogged nozzles. So my question is, how do we fix the problem with the problem of the text not being dark. Would the empty photo cartridge be the reason why the text is not coming out dark enough, because I thought all black text was the result of the colour cartridge.

thanks in advance

The Canon utility that comes with the driver, should have a number of different cleaning and alignment utilities.

Make sure the driver is selected for that printer and Windows isn't using a generic printer driver

It also could be set to print photos or greyscale images. This could cause them to be grey as opposed to pure black.

You'll have to go to control panel/printers/right click on the printer/properties and there should be an option there to set to black and white as opposed to colour/greyscale etc.
