My girlfriend forgot her password and her password hint for her computer. She runs Windows XP on her laptop.

How does she login or format the hard drive if someone is in this situaiton.

With that said you can format with the XP disk

Unless it is the BIOS password (most users never set this but companies might) then you needs to replace the PROM

If the password is set from windows XP the password can be broken in about 30 seconds.

WIN XP forgotten Password


While you are restarting your machine press the F8 key to get the "Boot Mode" menu. Choose "Safe Mode". Once you get to the Log in screen log in as administrator with no password. This will allow you to reset forgotten local admin/users passwords.
