HIV/AIDS question

Hi all,

I have no where else to really turn to to ask this question. We all know that wearing a condom can reduce the risk of HIV/AIDS and other STD's, however, I have some concerns regarding the life of the HIV virus and just how large the quantities of the virus are required to pass from female to the male.

For example, after finishing and taking the condom off, what are the chances in contracting the virus if some of the vaginal fluid on the condom were to rub off against mr. happy? or get onto my hands and then somehow later get into my system?

are the quantities to small or is the lifetime of the HIV virus too short for any successful transmission?

i realize that i will definitely be flamed for this, but I was unsure of wherelse to ask this question (before asking a doctor),. and excuse the perhaps 'childish' nature of the question as stated above, but it is a concern of mine.

am i just paranoid? and if it is just paranoia, then maybe this game is just not for me anymore! (been going strong for 3 years now)

Part of your answer ...

The Human Immunodeficiency Virus is fragile. Once the virus is outside the body in a dry form, it dies immediately. Even in a wet state, it does not live long when exposed to heat, detergents, or disinfectants.

I'd say you are paranoid, but it's good to know your facts and stay aware. Of the ways you describe, it's highly unlikely it would find a way into your body. I'll leave the final answer to the experts, but you should just take the plunge asap and see yer Doc, to put your mind at ease.

I'm no expert. I've only been convinced I had it twice and did not, even though exposed in a high risk environment ...

No, I'm not gay or even bi, contrary to popular belief ..

Don't worry about HIV from a situation like that. Take it from someone who is currently going though a bout of paranoia about the same thing. Like was said above the envelope that the HIV virus is contained in is very fragile. I doesn't live long at all when exposed to the atmosphere. It needs dark and warm to live. Or in Blood. I have read that the virus dies in about 1 min if exposed to air. Even getting some vaginal fluid on your hands and then touching yourself isn't a very high risk. I think they call it a theoretical risk. Im not saying go masterbate with vaginal fluid cause that would be more of a risk. I have also read that vaginal fluid while it does carry the virus, does not carry a lot of it. Not as much as blood or semen. So from one paranoid person to another I think you are not in much trouble.

But if you are like me our responses here won't help much and will probably scare you more. Call that Hotline that was mentioned above by Jerkin. I did once they are helpful.

Note: Cuts on your hands would be a problem but they have to be "open" cuts. I asked a doctor once what that meant. She said open means open. If nothing is coming out of the cut then nothing is going in and hence its not open.

HIV cannot survive in open air

Hello,

The virus essentially dies immediately upon exposure to air, like everyone is saying. I don't quite think "paranoia" applies to your situation, but you can indeed rest easy.

The people who need to do more to protect themselves are teenagers, by and large, for men who buy sex from (the tasteful and impressive definition of ) "professional" women are indeed getting some fairly healthy protective habits.

Now if only these same women didn't have to read at this website, that to some consumers, a so called "Girl Friend Experience" mandates them to have unsafe sex.

More high honors to the women who opt for safe sex all the time, every time!

The "dirtiest" place about the human body is the mouth.

The (naturally) cleanest place about the human body is the female genitalia, except for the results from unsafe sex of any kind.

These concepts shouldn't be that difficult to interpret.

All:

Thanks very much for the input everyone. This has helped ease me a little bit, but I will still follow up with a doctor.

I have always used protection during intercourse, and once or twice have engaged in BBBJTC ...

my main concern was with the removal of the condom and the logevity of the hiv virus at this point in time.. and i've had those questions answered.

thanks once again! :)
