I've noticed that fighting majors have been far more weighted to the Western Conference for MANY YEARS now... they just fight alot more out there. Does that make them tougher?

only Buffalo and Philly from the East are even in the top 10. NONE are in the top 5 from the East!

Toronto only has 21.

anaheim is one big, tough hockey team. you can't expect anything less from a club who has brian burke as the gm. their game earlier this week against the canucks was an all out war.

Also a Western team has not won the Cup since the Red Wings in 2002.

i don't know if your statement is really an issue. the series were all as close as could be except for the mentioned 02 stanley cup:

2002 lasted only 5 games... Detroit from the west won as mentioned.

2003 went 7 games
2004 lockout
2005 went 7 games
2006 went 7 games

Team toughness is not manifested in terms of fights or fighting majors. Rather it is which team has more determination, grit, and heart to fight through the gruesome schedule of games to advance from regular season to playoffs as well as to win the Stanley Cup.

my guess is that the term 'team toughness' is subjective to personal opinion.

i agree with the attributes you've mentioned. however, toughness can present itself in different ways. ie, one team may have the most determination and heart. another team may present way more grit, resilience to injury and fight in their game. and a third team may be made-rite (picture perfect) for a screening of the movie slap-shot... :)

May be the team which possesses all these characters will win the Cup. ;) LOL!!!
