In order to have every pitch to a contestant to be perfect, why don't they use a pitching machine than can be calibrated to each batters specs-chest high , belt high, a bit inside , a bit outside etc....?
Verlander said they are using juiced up balls for the derby.
Thus the increasing numbers as of late.
Personally I'm of the opinion that participation could be detrimental to the participants health and mechanics. Notice I said could be. So not in every players case but still I wouldn't risk that amount of extreme torque swings in that short amount of time.
I know Aaron Judge hurt his shoulder and said he would never participate again.
Vladdy should have been declared the winner!, he had the tougher route to the final, he was tired out by the time he faced Alonso, that's my opinion.
If I was in charge, I'd revamp the format, no match ups, just let each batter have say 50 swings, who ever has most HR after 50 swings would be the winner. If tied then there would be a swing-off.
