One of the most boring prize fights in a long time.

Neither fighter really deserved to win. Hopkins seemed to be waiting all night to counter with that sneaky right hand of his. Taylor should have had at least a point taken away for excessive holding.

A prime Hopkins completely destroys Taylor.

Ronald "Winky" Wright beats either one of these two. Kingsley Ikeke (if he wins his title fight in Germany) would be a very interesting and difficult fight for Jermain

I agree Rusty, the fight was boring. A prime Hopkins would have taken apart Taylor with that sneaky right as you called it. I think Winky could take both of them at this point. He is a solid fighter.

Boxing has really shifted from the heavyweights to the lighter guys in recent years. There is no real dominant Heavyweight anymore since Lewis, but even he wasn't that spectacular. I like Klitchko, but I mean he isn't great. I don't know why there isn't a dominant heavyweight....

The best heavyweight fight that could be made right now is Wladimir Klitschko vs James Toney. If and when Toney beats up Rahman, I hope this fight can be made.

As far as why there isn't a dominant heavywight right now, I think it has a lot to do with all the biggest and best american athletes are gravitating towards football, basketball, etc. Boxing is nowhere near as mainstreas as it used to be, thus the decline in top notch heavyweights these days.

Its a shame. Also with the increased popularity in mixed martial arts doesn't contribute to the decline in boxing. Don't know what would kick start it...really too bad. Are the boxing glory days over?

They are as far as mainstream goes, but who really cares. I'd watch an interesting HBO or Showtime fight card over any other sporting event every time.

Although I am not trying to say that I follow the mainstream, but let's face it mainstream is what gets the big bucks. Boxing does well, but every dollar being spent on mix martial arts is one dollar away from boxing. I love boxing, I would watch a HBO PPV fight over many UFC fights or what not. The fact of the matter still remains that the days of the phrase, "Heavy Weight Champion of the World!!!" ruling the headlines are now over. I wish I knew what could kick start it. I guess a decent long lasting beast that destroys a few people and has more then one fight per year. The industry needs someone to come out knock three to four big card names out in a short amount of time to generate hype.

But I don't know, I guess my true passion in spectating professional sports still goes to hockey, basketball, or baseball. Football wasn't that great for me. Lacrosse is ok, but I prefer hockey.

Go Rusty you be the next champ...I got your back!! LOL :D

I hear what you're saying, and agree with you.

I seriously thought Sam Peter would be the next big thing, but Wlad showed what a solid game plan and stiff jab could do to to the crude brawler.

Yeah, best part of the hockey season is only a few weeks ways. The World Junior Championships. Will be fun to watch Phil Kessel.

Then in the first week or two of January boxing's most underrated champion, Jean Marc Mormeck, will lay a horrific beating on O'neil Bell in a Cruiserweight unification bout.

I am pretty excited about the Olympics. Although also being four years apart, the World Cup of soccer is the only time I can really enjoy soccer. So that is pretty good. But this years race for the gold in hockey will be fun to watch.

Boxing has lost its credibility to the point that ultimate fighter shows are beating it in popularity. That's one huge fall from grace.

Yeah you are so right Keebler. Didn't really think about that. Now a days whenever a fight is over, you are left thinking, "Oh the judges scores were fucked" or whatever. Then you have a rematch here and a rematch there or a tie here and a tie there. No clear cut knock out winner. Boxing has become very technical and calculated to who wins which round and what not. Not as entertaining, IMHO. Credibility does play a factor and definately takes away from the overall experience.

In UFC it is bang bang bang, just try to end your opponent as qucikly as possible, regardless it being through submission or strikes. But I mean to each his own, the boxing enthusiasts will always love boxing, and the casual spectator of violence will like the UFC stuff. I like it all. I use to wrestle competitively in my high school days back in the States, so I am pretty in ept with the grappling and stuff, but there is just something special about toe to toe stand up boxing. Clean precise punching and weaving is just great to watch. Know what I mean?

A great knock out in boxing is hard to beat. Probably one of the best things to watch in professional spectator sports. Those few moments in slow motion of each boxer dodging each other's strikes and weaving and bopping to counter punch are impressive and so farking entertaining need less to say. Well then again porn is pretty good too...LOL:p

Some of the Pride Fights (the Japanese version of UFC) have had some great matches which were pretty much all boxing.

The Takanori Gomi versus Jens Pulver fight was a great fight that was almost all boxing.
Sakurai and Pulver was also pretty good.

Boxing is an integral part of MMA fight's aresenal weapon and quite a number of MMA fighters are at the very least competent boxers.

Nogueria (former Pride Heavyweight Champ and an expert at BJJ) has actually made it to the Brazilian Olympic Boxing Team.

As for the Hopkins fight... no real surprise to me about the result.

Insofar as you're supposed to try your damndest to pick a winner, I scored it for Hopkins. Taylor had a really nice 6th & 11th round, and maybe won 3 & 4 by default, but that's it.

It's hard to believe there is no agenda here. How can a guy outland his opponent in two fights - including a signicant edge in powershots - and still wind up 0-2??

Now once again there were many tough rounds to score - on my notes, I had alternative scores for rounds five rounds. Take the second, which I quickly marked 10-9 for Taylor for knocking Hopkins back with a cuffing left hook and putting him on the ropes with a 3 punch combination. I thought the punches were blocked, but felt it was better than nothing. Well on the replay, the punches weren't blocked, they were all air, and on the second sequence it was Hopkins who landed a light counter left off the ropes. Probably should have been an even round.

Anyway I had 115-113 with 1,5, 7,8,9,10 & 12 to Hopkins, and 2,3,4,6,&11 for Taylor . ( 1,2 & 4 could all have been even, and I might accept an even 8th based on Taylors last 20 sconds. I can't see Taylor winning though.)

I still like watching a good boxing match but, compared to MMA , it just doesn't get me as excited as it used to .

just can't help thinking if the boxer was in an all out battle with a mixed martial artist, they'd be in deep shit.

also doesn't help boxing when the MMA guys issue challenges for the boxers to fight in a multi dimensional way.

I saw a pride fight a while back where Bob Sapp saw Mike Tyson in the crowd and issued a challenge to fight him . Tyson looked scared.

I saw that too, Mike Tyson looked intimitated to shit. Not to mention Sapp is a freaking monster. Even if I had a fucking pistol in my hand I think I would think twice...LOL
