How do i determine which is the best AGP to go for. How do I decode the numbers.

I know 512 MB is better than 256 MB. Anything else I should know?

Half decent AGP cards are getting harder and harder to find, as AGP has been replaced by PCI-E (PCI-Express) on 99% of new motherboards for well over a year now.
If you're going to install it on the Asus P4VP-MX motherboard you're at a further disadvantage as it only supports AGP 4X cards.
AGP 8X cards were introduced 5 years ago and NOT all are backward compatible with AGP 4X slots.
Note: even if one does work in a 4X slot, there will also be performance issues as the card will only function at half it's rated bandwidth.

If you're adamant about upgrading your video, I think you'll be disappointed with the results on an AGP 4X motherboard. I strongly suggest you upgrade your motherboard too and buy a PCI-E card.

Memory is often a marketing gimmick. There are plenty of cards that come with 512MB that can't even begin to put it to good use. If you're gaming, you want an Nvidia or ATI/AMD card with a 6, 7, 8, or 9 in it, like the 7600GT, HD2600XT, or X1950Pro. The first number(s) denote generation, the rest denotes class. Class is typically more important than generation and a 6600GT will kill a 7300GT. If you're not gaming, anything relatively new and more than $40 should be fine.
