I think the logical and natural progression of the industry will stray towards there being more and more independents. With the introduction of the internet, this medium has changed the industry by leaps and bounds already. By 2016, I believe there to be an entirely different marketing scheme then what it is today. Instead of agencies running with a roster of girls, it will become a flood of independent providers all marketing themselves. People will only get smarter, and more internet savy, and in result more likely to promote or advertise on their own. There will perhaps be a rise in booking agents, and call centers, but the majority of the providers should be independent.
This of course, all depends on if the laws and regulations don't change. Geographically speaking, the hobbying will definately be better in Canada rather then the US, only because the laws are more liberal here, and it doesn't look like the Canadian dollar will depreciate anytime soon either. In fact, the Canadian dollar should match the US dollar 1:1 by 2010. A decade is a long time, for any industry to grow and change. There are so many factors that play into this question. I think the trend is towards acceptance by society... ...but it will be a slow process. There is nothing "in it" for politicians to raise the issue.
