I think there was a device in Costco last week that helps with this. It was a turntable with RCA out jacks and I thought I saw the words MP3 in the sign, implying that some conversion thing was included.

You can buy a turntable with a USB connector (google for it).
You can connect your stereo to your sound card input, and use a free audio recorder / editor software package, such as Audacity, as suggested above.
Or you can use a different software package such as Goldwave. (Which I recommend, if you don't mind the price.)
Once you've recorded the sound (plus a few seconds before and after, or even the whole album), you can easily "select" the individual songs and save them separately in ".wav", ".mp3", or other popular formats. If you want to get fancy, you can even apply filters to try to reduce imperfections (hiss, etc).

LPs are definitely making a comeback. I've talked to some teens about it, as they are the ones buying the LPs. Turns out that at least some of them are buying the music via iTunes, and listening to that, but then are going out and buying a physical cover for the artwork and liner. Since LPs have the biggest artwork and liner sleeve for notes, it is the format of choice.tersey said:
