Wherever work requires me....
Hi all,

Looking for a little advice from the community. I have been given a new staffing number for the upcomming quarter and in no uncertain terms, I need to let some people go. I have been given layoff packages to offer that are actualy fairly decent, but and there is always a but, I have been asked to lowball and see what the reaction is to the initial offering. My question is this, should I present to those affected and tell my boss that no one was very receptive to the initial offering even though I believe some will just sign and walk away not realising there is more available. Am I being to human? I have let people go in the past and it really didn't bother me both layoff and termination, but this time, for some reason it is getting to me...

What say all of you?????

If they're good employees, try to get them more, the company could do it to you sometime.

Figure out a way to save 30%

You can easily do that. Keep in mind your performance is being monitored too.

30% would be very manageable, when I think about it...

Good call
No matter what you job. You are only as good as your last project.

Terminate With Extreme Prejudice

You should off the lowest possible package that any employement agreement allows and not offer one cent more. You should also terminate the people as quickly as possible and walk them out the door within 5 minutes after giving out the termination notices.

^^^ Play safe. You are not a trade union leader. Do not play politics as word gets out and round eventually biting your ass.
Best idea so far (papa & onthebottom) - Do a performance evaluation. Distribute package solely on the basis of your performance rating. That way you are handling this from your head and not through your heart.
Also, you are showing your worth to the company.
