Just wondering if there are any Howard Stern fans on the board.
I myself am a HUGE fan and listen to him every single morning on 92.9 FM from Buffalo, New York.

I was upset when his show was pulled from the Canadian airwaves a couple of years back.

I was listening to him this am and Howard announced that the F.C.C. will be shutting his show down or is in the works of shutting his show down for good. Apparently some stations across the U.S. have already started to do so.

Anyone else know what this is ALL about, I missed some of his show last week when all this drama unfolded... :(

I know it had to do with the "F" word and the "N" word used by a caller..

It will be sad day when they take Howard off the air. In the meantime, Ross Limbaugh (spelling) will continue to polute the minds of vulnerable americans with his right wing master race nonsense. Since Bush took over the states, American has been in a decline. I can't believe they were going in impeach Clintion about lying over getting a blow job, and they are going to re-elect BUSH for putting the country to war over false pretences. I just dont understand the american right wing agenda.
I will also say that some of my very best friends in the world are Americans. America has a wealth of wonderful attributes.

this did lead to a great comic moment though. right now Howard Sterns strongest supporter is Rush Limbaugh.

I dig the chaos.

if I remember right, Rush's comments were along the line of "I don't know Howard Stern, I've never listened to Howard Stern, but the minute I hear someone is being pulled off the air due to controversy I start getting nervous."
he went on to say something to the effect of that if people like Stern aren't able to say what they want then there's a risk of that freedom being taken away from the rest of us.

To those who use the term "freedom of speech". Please understand the meaning behind it.

It is to be able to speak out against or for your Government, without fear of reprisal.

Speaking ones mind is a whole different ball game and is illegal in this country and in the states as well when it is used to degrade or bring hatred towards a certain group of people.

Howard Stern crossed that line on many occasions, perhaps in well veiled ways, none-the-less he did offend many sects of society (especially womens rights groups) and this is what he is being censored for, along with using vulgar language that was not bleeped out and was available to minors to hear.

Perhaps he is being overly censored by the so called right wing advocates, however they do have a point if somehow a young child is listening and asks a question about certain sex acts that he has no qualms about refering to on his show. Yes children shouldn't be allowed to listen, but how do you stop them?

"in freedom of speech...heavens knows I speak my mind..(okay shut up those that know me well...smiling) BUT

theres a difference between "freedom to speak ones mind" and degrading a certain sex day in day out

annalee"
I wonder who is bing exploited and degraded. The woman who use his show and their bodies to line their pockets or the idiots (like me) who are spending the money. I feel men's sexual weaknesses are being exploited on Howard, in strip clubs and in legitimate escort situations. Howard is simply the band leader with a great sense of irony and humor.

i used to listen to him, then my antenna on my car broke *cough* i was mad one night, what can i say.

anyways i digress, howard was entertaining, but i did get sick of hearing the same thing over and over.
entertaining nonetheless, if he does get pulled, that would suck.
when i was bored of regular radio, i'd turn to him.

they were always on his ass anyway.

he was planning to retire a few years ago, but signed on for a few more years, i don't think he's gonna care too much anyway.$$$

I've listened to Howard Stern. I found him boring. Every now and then he would come up with something funny but for the most part, I found his humour childish and not worthy of my listening space. But I would defend his right to free speech to my grave.

The US Supreme Court ruled a while ago that the 1st Amendment gives you the right to say whatever you want but it doesn't mean you have the right to say it on the airwaves.

From what I remember, hate speech can only be prosecuted if it can be proven to have directly inspired a crime...
For instance, the KKK can march and declare that they believe every other race than their's is inferior. That is protected by the 1st amendment.
BUT, if they say blacks should be lynched and someone who attends the speech goes out and lynchs a black man then that speech is not protected by the first amendment.

The way I see it is, if you dont wanna hear it TURN IT OFF, if you dont wanna watch it CLOSE YOUR EYES.

No one forces me to listen to Howard, its my choice, so if some housewife is sitting at home getting offended, thats HER choice.... TURN IT OFF!
Geez!

Two cents!

I first heard Howard Stern in the early 90's and was an instant fan. I could relate to and appreciate his humor, perhaps because he grew up not that far from me on Long Island or he just hit a nail on the head at times. At that point, many of his stories centered around his wife, kids, in-laws and cat.

I do admit that there were times when he went "to far" for my taste but all in all, I found him to be bright and funny. There were great guests and amusing interviews. He made my morning commute almost enjoyable.

I think that many people fail to realize that Howard is a humorist, while he might be going for a "cheap" laugh, he is going for humor and is not on the air to offend. To provoke thought perhaps, but not to offend.

IMNSHO ~ The show took a turn after Howard's divorce. At this point in time, I find the show to be repetitive and boring.

I can't feel sorry for the women that go on his show, especially the ones that go to be "rated" as they know what is going to happen. No one forced or tricked them into being there. If they are being degraded, then they are to blame and not Howard or anyone else.

Unless something has changed, Infinity Broadcasting will back Howard to the hilt and has paid his fines in the past.

It's been said in this thread before and I agree. If you don't like a show, just turn it off.

I am no fan of Howard Stern nor of his neanderthal attitude toward women; nonetheless, I abhor the crackdown of the FCC on programming that they consider "immoral." The US has long had a culturally backward, repressive attitude toward sex, and since the Republicans have taken office they have used their anti-sex campaign to secure their support in areas dominated by the religious right. Whether one loves or hates Howard Stern isn't the issue IMHO; it's whether the American public will stand up against government officials who have become the self-appointed censors of American sexual behavior. If this keeps up, I may have to emigrate to YYZ!

I too listen to Howard Stern most days and find alot of the show funny. Some of its boring too.

Where Howard has run into trouble is that he has recently begun to criticize U.S. President Bush and suggest that he should not be re-elected. That is when the FCC (who's head just happens to be Colin Powell's son) started to go after him.

As for the CLear Channel dropping him, it was only after they had ran his show for about ten years and were being called before congress to testify at hearings called into media after Janet showed her boob. One of the head guys at Clear Channel is also the guy who bought the failing Texas Rangers and made George Bush a millionaire. ($14 million was Bush's share). Convenient , huh?

And Annalee for someone who works in a profession that is out of the mainstream and looked down by the religious right, you seem to have a very narrow view. If you didn't like him why did you listen to him each morning? Does your radio not have a dail so you could tune in another station? If its ok to censor him, guess it ok to arrest SPs as well.

And nice anti-semetic comment plymaker.
