What if a well known and respected hobbyist with 1,000 reviews (obviously not I) fell on hard times and came on the board seeking financial donations ---------- would you help?

That depends on who they wanted to see.

Guys, let's get serious here. Misfortune can happen anytime anywhere to any of us. Divorce, gambling losses, stock market losses, job loss, business goes belly up, GF steals all your money, your uninsured house burns down, you fall and can't get up, drugs, alcohol, etc. etc.

So, would you help?

To me the primary issue isn't whether I want to
help. It is how I am expected to help and how do
I find out where my money goes that bemuses me.
Do I send money to an account set up by the person
who needs the money or the poster who represents
him or perhaps the moderator of TERB? Or do I just
contact the poster by PM setting up a time and place
to meet so I can give him a cheque. If the poster asking
for money has a long record of review that should
earn him some credibility. But his online persona
could make me worry about him squandering my
money on his addiction,

Not a chance. I donate to worthy causes (charities) not so that a guy can get laid. A sense of dignity would understand that if paid sex is not affordable that coming on here begging for money is precluded. Equally it would be good luck asking his favourite ladies for freebies now that he is SOL$$. Why would they?

Personally I would be too embarrassed to ask for help this way, I've always worked for my keep, but if
real tragedy where to set in, Well lets just say there's always something you can do. But this suggestion
of coming on the board and begging, would not be an option for me. My dad use to tell me work hard and
don't worry. People will recognise this from you.

Got to wonder how well respected such a person would be if he had to ask strangers for financial help.

There are hobbyists who are well respected reviewers on TERB.
Obviously any respect they enjoy in the outside world has
nothing to do with the hobby.

This is the flip side of "SP needing help". I guess none of us are immune to misfortune either because of bad luck and/or self-inflicted wounds. I read somewhere that the majority of people are 2 paycheques away from being homeless, although I suspect TERB members are probably in the higher income bracket.

Well respected?
These guys are all slime balls on a chat board trying to line up their next conquest. Just like me.
If you pissed your money away on hookers, not my problem.
Hell, I don't even know these peoples real names.
Why not well respected gamblers or drug addicts?

Very well stated !! Yes, you have to come to terms with your responsibilities as well as priorities. Otherwise who are you, truly?

1000 reviews and lets say he spent an average of $250 on each reviewed lady, that's a quarter of a million dollars. No wonder he's fallen on hard times.

Remember it is hypothetical. Let's say he started at age 30 and is now 50. That is 20 years at 1 per week, so 1,000 in total. Some members on the board probably exceed 1,000.

Well respected according to who though? Themselves? Their insights are appreciated to a certain point but that doesn't mean they are respected
