To some it's not alot. To me it is too much.
I went to the bank and withdrew $5000 cash. Money hard earned and in place for enjoyment. To be spent on Laptop computer, 42" TV, $400 towards a friends kids computer and $500 for a night out.
At the bank I placed the envelope in my inside breast pocket and zipped it. Got into the car. Got out at the store I was purchasing all of the above at. As I stepped out of my car I unzipped the pocket and it was empty. No luck at the bank...called @ 755pm just before they closed. This was supposed to be an amazing weekend. argh.

Did your pocket have a hole in it or something?? As a rule, I make major purchases with a credit card. At least that way, if you lose it, you have some recourse. There's no reason to be walking around with that much cash on you, IMO anyway.

Check your car to make sure it didn't drop on the floor. Also call the bank and the Police Department's lost and found tomorrow to see if anyone turned it in. I realize it's a long shot, but you never know. Certainly better than giving up on it.

Wow, that sucks! I was pissed off when I lost $750 to a fat ugly Black lady 3 days before Christmas. I don't know what pissed me off more; that the bitch denied see it when I asked her or that a week later the cops still hadn't asked to see the store's video tapes.

Check your jacket again.Make sure there is not a hole in the bottom of the pocket allowing the envelope to slide down between the outer and inner lining of the jacket.Had this happen to me before.

You thought it was inside your breast pocket (of your coat)

But it probably dropped to the floor right in the bank. The guy behind you in line, or a couple back probably picked it up and either pocketed it, or turned it in.

If it was me, I would turn it in since you are just a guy. But if you were the Brinks truck and your door flew open as you were driving down the road, I would keep it.

Sorry to hear about your bad luck, it hurts.
