I posted a couple of threads earlier regarding a new PC purchase and ultimately ended up with an IMac. One poster stated that people he knew had been happy with refurbished models, so I purchased one of those in the hopes of getting a good deal for my money (ie. faster, extra software, etc.).

The refurbished arrived, seemed okay, but the web browser seemed kind of bright and the images appeared to be washed out. Called apple and tech had me go to the apple icon and adjust display settings. During this process we discovered there was no contrast adjuster on my display popup window - there was on his. So, we assumed there was something wrong and I sent it back and simply ordered a brand new one (not refurbished) with extra RAM.

My question. The browser is still too bright - but everything seems very clear. I think it is simply that the white is too white. When I go to 'that' pop-up window, there is no contrast button, just the brightness adjuster that controls the desk top and browser at the same time. The desktop looks fine. It is only the browser I am having trouble with. I think the lack of a contrast button on the pop-up I am looking at is normal.

Does anyone have any idead how to adjust the brightness? The actual desktop seems perfect. No problem with too bright or too dark.

Thanks in advance.

Also, this is my first LCD screen. But I do use one at work that seems fine.

I don't know which iMac you bought generation/OS-wise, but I'll tell you this ... the factory brightness setting of the newer or recent iMacs are brighter in comparison to regular CRT's, even PC laptop LCDs. Try this:

1/Once your mac is fired up and ready, go to the bottom of your screen and locate system preferences icon, click on it, then go locate the hardware section , in it then click on Displays . You shall then have a box popped up and in which- at the bottom- there should be a slider for brightness adjustment.

2/IN CASE you don't find your system preferences icon when fired up, just click on the MACINTOSH HD icon on your screen , then locate and click on Applications icon, in which you shall find system preferences
, then follow 1/
