Gentlemen:
Does anyone has any story regarding impaired driving charges?
Going through that and would like to hear some thoughts from the pals here.
Thanks.

If you want to kill yourself why not just take a gun and blow your head off?

The idea of grown men taking to the road driving after a night of drinking is so asinine. Why don't people grow up and take a bit of responsibility?

It is the simplest form of accident avoidance ever.... call a cab, or a friend, or walk.

It isn't rocket science. If you don't care about your own well being at least think about the innocent people whose lives can be ruined simply by you having an extra drink before getting behind the wheel.

Thanks for being so supportive to a brother who reached out. Maybe someone will be as kind one day in your time of need...

If you drove drunk I'm glad they caught you and I hope they throw the book at you. You did something incredibly stupid and put other people's lives at risk. You deserve what's coming your way. Hopefully they got you at a RIDE stop and not because you caused an accident.

Yeah, I got a few stories.

Some impaired guy hit me and a few other cars. None of us were seriously hurt, but our cars got trashed. According to the cops, there's a good chance at some point anyone involved will be called to court to testify. If so, I'm in. I actually can't wait, so I'm hoping I get called in.

Years back, a few us got clipped by a semi-drunk guy. He wasn't totally out of it, but you could tell he was a little woozy (probably had a few too many beers). Again, lucky none of us got hurt. A surprise too since he was driving a big van..... looked like he was a contractor or something as the van had lots of gear.... ladder, etc... A year later, I got called to court. For some reason, I was the only guy who showed up (the other people who got clipped didn't show up). As soon as the defendant and his lawyer saw me, they immediately withdrew the case and didn't bother going through the court motion. So I took a morning off work for nothing as I didn't even need to do anything. I guess they were hoping none of us would show up.

Assholes.

The dumb thing too was that both of these happened in the day. So these morons couldn't even wait to get home to drink. Instead, drinking in the sunny afternoon.

Im sure you can tell that sympathy is not to be found here however, all the moral high grounders have probably, at sometime driven when they shouldn't, myself included, but not gotten caught. It's so easy to tell yourself you are ok to drive. That said if you were absolutely smashed, well, you made your bed pal. At the very least, thank God, you and others are alive and, I presume, no one was hurt.

Learn from your mistake, NEVER do it again and try and spread the word to others in your social group to not do this. This year's stats show DWI is on the up so apparently the message isnt getting through. Atone for what happened, spread the message, be part of the solution, volunteer to lecture at a social group, high school, whatever. Bottom line, make something positive out of your negative. Good luck!!

There simply isn't a reason or excuse for this. None. If you have money to hobby, to travel overseas as your previous posts suggest you do, then you have money to pay for alternate transport.

You're an adult. And this is a completely legally and socially unacceptable situation. You won't find absolution or sympathy here. It can't be justified.

Do the court system a favor. Plead guilty, accept your punishment, be the stand up guy. Don't whine and wheedal about poor you. Accept responsibility for a stupid and dangerous act.

And never do it again.

It takes a man to admit a mistake in life and I would hope you have learned a valuable lesson here.

That being said, get a lawyer or at the very least one of those X-copper guys. You need to have someone who knows how to reduce whatever punishment is coming. Do not tell your insurance company, keep paying the insurance on your vehicle. I know this not by experience, but an old friend went through this, many years ago.

Depending on the circumstances surrounding your charge...there are several ways to avoid a conviction...your lawyer should be able to counsel you on those ..if he's worth his salt.
however...
I agree with the other posters here..don't look for absolution from the community...we have all seen the aftermath of the result of poor judgement.(some of us more than others)
If no one was injured as a result of your decision...be thankful...but always remember what could have happened

Oh, the Holier than thou.
Let the first who hasn't cast the first stone (hubcap).
If you're of a certain age, when it was considered a bit of a joke, you did it to.
Be glad you didn't get caught or get killed.
I have a couple of friends pushing daisies. They learned the hard way.
In today's world you should know better.
Get the best lawyer you can afford, the best.
I know several people who were guilty as is possible. One actually threw up on the cops shoes. Lawyer got him off on a minor technicality.
By the way, FUCKING SMARTEN UP! :censored:

Oh, the Holier than thou.
you gotta love people who judge morals on an escort review board. Not condoning what he did, just sayin....

He made a mistake, and unfortunately, many of us don't realize how serious of an error judgment we made until we have to suffer the consequences of our poor decision.

He knows he fucked up, and is looking for help. Now that all angels in here have condemned his actions and explained to him what a horrible person he is, can we move on and give him info he asked?

I thought that the purchasing of sex was also illegal?

Not that anyone in this thread would be doing that...

Get a lawyer who specializes in impaireds. Not some random criminal lawyer. Stephen Price, Ron Jourard, etc.

I hope the judge throws the book at you.No sympathy from me.Hopefully you didn't kill or hurt any innocent people.
There are stories everyday in the news of drunk assholes killing innocent people.I always wonder what goes through peoples heads when they see the news some innocent family gets killed by a drunk and then goes out and drinks and drives.
Some people get stupider the older they get.

It's going to cost you Bubba.

I'm an invalid again because a Nimrod driving a Dodge Caravan wasn't paying attention to the road. With so much of my young life taken up with becoming productive, being back at square one has left me intensely depressed. I have no sympathy for you, if you hit anyone be thankful it wasn't me. After I'm finished with him, Dodge Caravan Nimrod will never be able to afford auto insurance again.

I hope your policy is comprehensive, you're in deep merda if it's not.

The blood alchol concentration threshhold for impaired in Canada is 0.08. Presumably you blew that or more. Some of the recent acquittals were based on the Breathalyzers being incorrectly calibrated or other wise unreliable. Obtaining good advice (or evn sympathy) on an escort review board is, judging from the above, very unlikely. Invest in a good and experienced lawyer who can assess your case.

It's a matter of degree, don't you think?
They are not equal acts in terms of danger to the public.
How many people had a chance of getting maimed or killed during your last session with an SP?
+1. When you see an SP it's an agreement between 2 consenting adults. I doubt any adult would consent to getting hit by a drunk driver.

big mistake you gotta pay for , nothing much else to say.... what I am interesting in knowing about is the legal process and fees...

an ex cop on my hockey team told us that its not worth paying the lawyers $10k or $15k , because they wont be able to reduce the punishment much...if anything at all.. he said to just go ahead and plead guilty and take the punishment, the lawyers will hammer you with fees that are not worth the end result.

anyone have info on if the lawyers are actually worth it?

Nice to see the support on this thread. Sheesh, what a bunch of judgmental douches.
Contrary to some opinions here, you must have legal representation. To not do so would be silly.
I have a few friends who have been nabbed in the past. Two on more than one occasion. They are back to driving now but paying hefty insurance rates >$10K per year.
It's an expensive mistake but one you should definitely learn from. If you don't then you won't see any sympathy from me. These days, there are so many other options than to drive impaired.
Good luck to you.
