Hi,

I hope this doesn't sound too silly, but I am looking to buy a pen but obviously don't want a cheap bic/papermate pen. I need a pen to make personal notes on the go, and don't want to worry about my current cheap pen to run out forcing me to carry multiple pens. From the info I found I think I want a refillable ballpoint pen. Does anyone have any recommendations to the contrary, or a specific company I should look for. I'm willing to spend $20 to $25. Is there any other info I should be aware of?

Thanks in advance,
1Hand

I mostly stick to a bagful of dollarama ballpoints. If I lose them, I pick up another.
I used to carry good pens, but soon realised that the world is full of thankless idiots whose sole purpose in life is to borrow and lose my property without even a thank you or sorry.

Don't get me wrong. I have (and still buy) expensive (fountain) pens...the feeling of nib on smooth paper is orgiastic. But they never leave the house.

I second the motion!

Years ago, I had a large collection of quality pens. I would get several a year for Christmas, birthday, and other special events. These were $20-$40 pens. People would ask to borrow the pen for a few seconds and then try to pocket it and walk off, people would come right out and ask me if they can keep my nice pen. I had a inconsiderate rat bastard use my nice pen to scratch a mark into a brick wall. Now my nice pens stay at home on my desk. I use to buy quality throw away roller ball pens ($6 for two) at Staples, but now I find that the Dollarama roller ball pens $1 for two are just as good.

I went with space pens. Reliable and refillable an not crazy ass expensive like Mont Blancs which I find truely suck for their price tag.

I carry a space pen with my jotter pad in my pocket for notes on the fly. The good thing about it is that it writes at any angle, so I can put my jot pad against a 90 degree angle wall and write a note without gravity getting in the way of the ink flow. However, the space pen ink I find not to be nice for writing letters. For that I use my Cross rollerball or a fountain pen. So much e-mail these days has reduced my use of pens for anything other than rough notes and greeting cards.

For a grab and go pen I find that any rollerball pen will do. As long as it writes the buzz code and room number smoothly on your hand, what else do you need?

+1... Space pens are great! I've carried one for probably 7 or 8 years. They fit nicely in your front pocket, write anywhere, refills are about 6 bucks and they last a reasonable length of time. I always buy mine at Lee Valley Tools.

the hobby needs more capitalism
For OP's price point, I'd recommend Uni-ball Signo's. You can find them at Staples.

I also recommend buying a bunch of cheap pens for day to day use.
