I only recently discovered this comedienne and she's really funny and talented.
She's kind of like a female John Candy, except not as fat and smarter.

She has an intriguing upbringing.
Her father was a Jewish owner of a Manhattan furniture store and her mother was stereotypical uptight Connecticut wasp.
She was brought up wealthy until her father declared bankruptcy when she was nine, then he was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis, then her mother divorced him and dragged daughter Amy away to live with her in Long Island.

She got a theater degree from Towson University and worked as a bartender/ waitress for a few years after graduation.

She has a new movie out this weekend called Trainwreck which she wrote the script for.

Anyway, here's a few youtube videos of her sketches.

I watched her Mostly Sex Stuff show a few months ago. She was very funny. At first I thought she might not be my cup of tea but I was wrong. Funny chick

Been a fan for a couple of years now. She's funny ,witty and cute as well. Went and sAw Train wreck last night at the drive in and was really impressed. If you like her show you will like the movie. John Cena was funny as hell as her boyfriend who doesn't know he's gay. Also another cute woman in the movie us Vanessa Bayer from SNL.

She is not fat. Dont get why people suggest it. Even if she was what difference does it make? Why even point it out.

Yeah really don't get the John Candy comparison. Other than both working in comedy they are nothing alike. You may as well say she is like Dave Chappelle except whiter with a vagina. And even then at least Chappelle is a living stand up.

Well, I find she gives off a bit of a John Candy vibe. She's very self deprecating like Candy was and so many of the jokes are at her expense. Plus she has this lively, playful twinkle in her eyes the way Candy did.
It's like a bit of John Candy's spirit mystically travelled through the ether and landed inside of her.

This skit below is something that's straight out of early 1980's SCTV featuring Big Jim McBob and Billy Sol Hurok being played by John Candy and Joe Flaherty.
I can see John Candy playing her role.

She's got to be one of the most unattractive overhyped female. You guys might think I have high standard in beauty and physical, but I don't. My friends often tell me when women passes us by and I say "she's hot" and they'll give me this "are you kidding me" look.

Who cares whether you find her attractive or not. The conversation is about her comedy.

Why don't you enlighten us next whether you'd like to bang Louis CK.

Fair enough and I can see how they both have that self deprecating style. Amy though is far raunchier and her background is firmly rooted in stand up where John Candy was a sketch comedian.

I find the closest comparison is probably her contemporary Sarah Silverman. I find Amy is a bit less aloof though and more likeable.

I actually didn't like her at first as I though she was just playing up her sexuality too much. She was in the finals of Last Comic Standing one year with Gerry Dee.

I think she has improved quite a bit and her writing is sharp.
