I am thinking of taking a vacation, covid burnout and have not taken break or vacation in more than 2 years. Thinking about Medellin 7-10 day trip. Any one from Ottawa who went for international hobby or Medellin, please share your experience

On the subject of Australia. Been watching some Australian crime documentaries on Amazon Prime. Apart from the fact that they seem to have the most repulsively barbaric criminals there, the thing that stands out is the complete ineptness of their police.
Common theme......" The dismembered body of a young girl was found at the bottom of a cliff in Tooomorloomwawonga, which the police found "suspicious" .

I've been to Jaco Beach on the west side of Costa Rica. AC used to fly direct from Toronto to San Jose ( like 5 hours approx ) and then about 90 min by car to Jaco Beach. It's a fairly laid back surfing town with a good variety of accomodations , hotels, motels , private condos etc. good variety of restaurants, massage parlours and services and that has a hotel called the Cocal Hotel - where every night dozens if not hundreds of girls start to assemble at the central bar there , all looking for business. It's quite a spectacle. Girls from all over. I liked the ones from South America. I was there pre Covid about 3 years ago so not sure what the scene is right now. I felt safe in the well lit tourist areas as well. Local cops have high visibility and they don't care about the girls at all because it's legalized in Costa Rica

Been to Sosua as there use to be a Canadian named Rick who ran a restaurant which also had a few cheap rooms in the back. He apparently got arrested for something though which is too bad since his establishment was actually pretty neat. Also stayed at Blackbeard's resort which is adult in a nearby town called Puerto Plata. Girls available downstairs by poolside all afternoon and evening.

As far as Costa Rica goes, I also did San Jose before I went to Dom Rep but from what I hear is that Costa Rica these days although convenient with lots of action available in both San Jose and Jaco, it's overpriced there compared to Dom Rep and Sint Maarten as well.

Rick was arrested for embezzling money from his old job. He did his time and paid reparations. He is back in the DR. The place was Rockie's, it is now apparently called Sonda Bar 2.0 (1.0 was across the street for a while). Rick has always been a good guy to deal with, haven't seen him since he got back though.

Blackbeards (Barba Negra), is still around but think it has new ownership. Never stayed there myself, never felt the need, but it is a more secure environment than the street action in Sosua.

Yes these prices seem to be in the ball park from my long ago Asian experiences

Asia (3rd world) of the past

10 dollars to 50 dollars a day room (power included sometimes, but on islands power is rationed - night only)
so that's 300 to 1500 a month from basic to beach front villa.
Food was the same 5 to 20 if local, half of here if western.
Alcohol was 10 cents a drink local, same as here for western.
Girls at the time where included in the larger homes as live in maids but tips and gifts are expected to be about 60 per day but that one girl with a month commitment.

Standard relationships varied widely and those prices are totally wrong by now as the China situation and globalization has massively changed in thee last 10 years. I mean 20 years ago China was a country which used bikes more than buses and cars.


If I told you the prices during the two economic crashes (Asian and global) for taking out the ladies you would not believe me.

Fascinating, out of curiosity, what spas did you go to? Full service is standard at basically all of them in El centro for 70k pesos or so and in the nicer areas for 120-200ish

I had never really thought Medellin would be a Gringo friendly place to go. It did have an awful homicide rate at one point but not sure what that is currently like.? How friendly were the people overall ?

Were you negotiating in Spanish by chance ? I would imagine that would cut the prices down considerably, as it would in , say, Cuba. How easy/difficult would it be for a guy like myself who has no Spanish. I found most of the people in Jaco Beach in Costa Rica to be very accommodating.

Medellín is nothing like the reputation anymore. You need to be careful of course, but in a decade I've never had any issues outside of some less than honest chicas here and there.

Always negotiate in pesos, my advice is if a girl brings up dollars run and don't look back. Being familiar with the scene and pricing of course will help but there's options at all sorts of price levels. Most of the strip clubs/casas have fixed pricing you can inquire about beforehand.

Knowing Spanish is better, but you can make it work with a translator and some patience.

Colombians are some of the nicest people you will ever meet.

Centro Commerical Rio Sur has several of them - Dan Spa, Om Spa and a third I can't remember the name. Om Spa has the best overall quality and quantity, connect with them on WhatsApp and you can see photos of their lineup every day. It was pretty amazing these places are right inside an actual legit shopping mall, though low traffic. No showers here. At Om I saw Carolina and Viviana (4-hands), Sara and Katerine and Andrea (6-hands) and Melissa and Natalia and Luciana and Cindy (8-hands). I think the minimum tip is 100,000 ($27) per girl, some might expect a bit more. I would say avoid Andrea, the others were good to great.

Across the street as you walk into the larger Olviedo Mall is the second location of Dan Spa. Much more traffic here and again, just wild that while it looks totally legit, you can get an undraped massage with HE here. The attractive young women in uniforms smiling back at you is the first clue. I did a 4-hands with Dani and Jeni.

Ermen Spa is further away in a high rise commercial building, you have to go through security here but they will come down and let you in if needed. The place is super nice and also has a shower. Spa Abybos is another place, convenient location near Parque Poblado. Room had a shower. Limited selection here but still had a cutie.

Energy in Laureles is great, sort of like a high end casa / spa combination. But surprised that there have been no discussions of the casas, or perhaps I missed it. These are mostly downtown, although some in other parts (Laureles for example). Basic brothels really, you go in, they either have a line up or have the girls come by to say hi, and you pick one and off you go. Price lists are often posted, and may be around 50 k for half hour or so, maybe 70 k for an hour. Usually a little massage, fs, etc.
