Internet Speed and DOS command?

I'm on Sympatico and recently I had a problem connecting. When I tried to manually connect, it would timeout and I would get a Sympatico error message. I tried unplugging and replugging all the cables, turning the modem on/off, and rebooting but nothing worked.

I called Sympatico and they had me do something in DOS that immediately fixed the problem (after rebooting). My connection speed also improved dramatically. Unfortunately I didn't write down what I typed into DOS.

Does anyone know what command I might have typed? I'm thinking it might have been some kind of memory/temp files dump?

Apparently disconnecting and reconnecting with Sympatico also changes your IP.

But I don't think that was the command.

I still have "cmd" in my Run command box, if that helps...

open the terminal and use the up arrow... this woks in unix, not sure about Windows.... see if it cycles through the old log.
ipconfig /flushdns ...... maybe
or he may have turned off your client side dns caching

net stop dnscache

That stops your system from storing dns lookups in a local cache ... thi way you will always look to your dns servers supplied by which ever dns u have listed in your network settings.
This assumes that the isp supplied servers are up to date and working...

All I know is that by disconnecting and reconnecting I can download from sites where they otherwise limit you to an amount per hour.
