I have a new iphone and will soon be travelling in Europe with it. Thought it would appreciate a vacation!
The questions...if I go through settings to data roaming and turn it off will this allow me to use the phone with wifi to download email etc. without hooking into a cellular network and incurring roaming charges?
When in a wifi zone will the phone automatically download email or will I have to log into sites and download manually?
And finally, if I want to make a call...do I have to enable the roaming to do this....and then get hit with a whole bunch of Rogers downloads etc?
I lied...one more question...what does the airplane mode do?
Many thanks folks....by the way...just learning on this device...but so far, quite impressed.-

If your push notifications are on and you data roaming is off, you will get your notifications when you enter a wifi zone.
Data roaming does not have to be on to use the phone.
The airplane mode is an easy switch to turn off your wifi, data roaming and cellular service when you are on a plane. So your phone wont interfere with the plane's equipment. You can still use already downloaded apps, listen to music or watch movies.

Great...thanks for this info. I'm happy to be able to forgo the cell service and just bask in the warmth of hotspots! I will leave push on and take the roaming off while I'm over there.
