Mine was excellent. I just recently upgraded to the iPhone 3GS, but had the 32gb Touch for about a year. I was recently in southern Mexico for a couple of weeks (traveled through the state of Chiapas). I found wifi hotspots in many places, and at all of the hotels we stayed in. The Touch was awesome for that, since it's literally a pocket computer. Browsing websites with it is amazing, and it's a lot more portable than a laptop, or even a netbook.
The battery life is not bad, but it does go down pretty quick if you're playing games with it. One option is to get an extra battery that you can plug in and recharge your Touch with it. There are some for about $50, but I came across one from the US that is around $10! The shipping is inexpensive, and I got it delivered within a week of ordering it. You can check it out here:

They list a limit of 1 battery per person, but if you order additional times (one battery per order), they don't limit it. I ordered two of them, using separate orders, and they both arrived separately on the same day. There is no cheaper shipping benefit to ordering 2 or more anyways, so the cost is the same. My recommendation is if you're going to be traveling a lot, and you expect to use it quite a bit, ordering two batteries is a very inexpensive option, and you'll be totally set with 2 additional batteries. You can use the Touch with the add-on battery plugged in, or you can charge your Touch battery with the add-on (it acts like you plugged it into a USB charger and charges when plugged in). For normal use, the internal battery is fine. But for heavy use (ie. playing games on the plane, or surfing for long periods of time in wifi hotspots), having the extra battery will save your ass! lol
One thing to note is with the Touch design, the headphone jack is at the bottom of the device, right beside the universal dock connector. This will prevent you from using your headphones while the add-on battery is plugged in. Just an FYI for you.
As to the Touch itself, it's amazing! I used it for email, with multiple email accounts set up with it. Having mobile email for free whenever you have wifi is very handy. And 100,000 apps available in the app store, many of them free, makes it a very good solution for someone needing a pocket PC!
Cheers
