Is Internet Explorer 8 safer than other browsers such as Opera or Chrome?

Just wondering, I do a lot of on-line banking and shopping and like the speed of Opera or Chrome over IE8, but IE8 ad says their new SmartScreen filter and other built-in security features help you stay safe. So is it safer to use IE8 when I do on-line banking and shopping?

Opera, FF and IE8 are all very secure.
Chome is still a developing work in progress.

My bank (TD) recommends IE8 over all the others.

I wouldn't ever log on in to a banking site with Chrome- even though I use it for everything else.

IE, FF are all safe

Just don't do banking and shopping wirelessly. Your info can be pulled from the air by anyone who makes an effort to try. Just make sure you do your sensitive transactions on the wire.
