Yes!

I have a PS3 and will say that it's worth it regardless of the your TV. It's a great value. I mean, what are your alternatives? XBOX?. Blu-ray is the new standard and getting a PS3 is better than getting a blu-ray player, IMO. Plus games, music media, and internet etc all-in-one.

Forget the 720p vs 1080p debate, the PS3 picture will look outstanding on a 37" screen. Very sharp!

sorry it is actually 32". Anyway, can you tell the difference if you put side by side 720p and 1080p on games and movies?

Yes, it is noticeable. 720P is awesome and 1080P is slightly better - depending of course on the quality of the original content. 1080P needs excellent original content or the imperfections really show. I agree buy the PS3, you'll enjoy the picture, just sit a little closer. ;)
that is one opinion. others?

No I cannot, and neither can most people if you didn't tell them which is which. The source material used is the most important thing. Crap played on 1080p will still look crappy. Keep this in mind, 1080p may render something slightly sharper, much like a fine print newspaper. If you hold that newspaper STILL you may see the clarity and sharpness. But if you MOVE IT AROUND in front of you, you will not. So pretty much anything worth watching (i.e. movies, video games) will look the same to the naked eye, especially at 32".

Forget those slow motion nature videos and cartoons used to emphasize the colour and sharpness of the TV's at retail stores. Put in any real movie that you'd actually want to watch and I highly doubt you'll see the difference.

BTW, sharpness is a function of viewing distance more than anything else. If it's not sharp enough, sit further back, or get a smaller TV.

Well, you'll probably get a better deal around boxing day xmas no question so maybe wait. But those deals will be the only 5 per store line up at 3am variety, so don't expect any big difference on the easily accessible ones. Same goes for those online sales that futureshop has. 8:00pm sale starts. 8:00:01 everything worth buying is sold out, lol.

Given the economic conditions I'd bet you could wheel and deal a good bargain now, but Christmas not too far away so maybe wait. Also, you may also be able to get a good bundle price including with TV, PS3, receiver and speakers if you don't already have those, especially if it's all from the same brand.
