A wise investment for Detroit however - insurance will pay Hasek's salary - so who cares; CuJo is signed through the potential work stoppage and Hasek will be definately too old after a work stoppage. If they let Hasek walk, he might have signed with a conference rival like Colorado. Different situation he's in, maybe he doesn't get hurt, and then he's leading Colorado to the Cup. A gamble that Detroit had to take. They weren't going to the Cup with CuJo anyway.

One has to wonder if Hasek's return was primarily motivated by a desire to flee his homeland due to legal troubles after his in-line skating hockey disaster .....
