I am a long time lurker, who has recently taken up the MP hobby.

I noticed while lying on the table and looking in those oh so convienient mirrors that my back is getting rather hairy in my old age.

Now a hairy chest is one thing, a hairy back is just plain primate.

I am considering getting some laser hair removal done.

I am curious if anyone out there has any experience, insight, or better yet recommendation on just such an issue.

And how much it might cost.

I've had laser hair removal of some back hair and it can be pretty expensive depending on how much hair needs to be removed. You may need 2 or 3 sessions for the treatments to be effective.

This means you have one session then after about 3 months when the hair starts growing back, you have another session and then possibly another. There will be less hair growing back each time.

The cost could be over a thousand bucks. It can also be uncomfortable as in painful.

There are a lot of hair removal clinics but I know the dermatology depts. of many hospitals also offer this service. I know Sunnybrook is one of them. I've never had it done though. I had a friend of mine who got her legs done once and that is correct that it can take a couple of sessions and some $$$. Cost would depend on the size of the entire area treated.

I also have a hairy back but that's okay with me. Personally I now enjoy being part caveman. I used to be self-conscious about it but then I realized that so many guys have it, it's probably more common than not.

WTF, maybe if it gets long enough I can do a comb-over!

I've never had electrolysis, but I've been told that laser is less painfull. With a laser there is a wand-like device that is placed over the hair and then zaps it.

The hair basically gets burnt down to the root and hopefully doesn't grow back. The pain is similar to an a elastic band hitting your skin. Some areas are more sensitive than others.

Really Retired.....REALLY!
I called about 1 yr ago to a local place here in Barrie to inquire as to how much it would cost to have my nether regions done. They informed me that it would be approximately $700 per session and that area usually requires anywhere from 2-4 sessions.

I am sure it has gotten cheaper and that the places in Toronto probably offer better rates.

I would definitely go for the laser hair removal as opposed to the electrolysis. With electrolysis they have to do each individual hair one at a time. I have been told that it can take 1 year or more to do a womans legs. While it may take just as long with laser, you don't have to get as many treatments. Lasers are 2-4 treatments while electrolysis is an hour per week until it is done.

You could also try waxing, yes, it does hurt but it really does get better the more you do it. It can last anywhere from 3-6 weeks and the hair really does get thinner the more you do it. I used to get my arms done in the summer but I gave up since after getting them done for a few years the hair is so thin now that when I do get them waxed it just breaks off, resulting in it growing back in within days. I tired it on my legs once, and call me a wimp but I would never do it there again, it hurt way too much.
