My computer crashed and I have to reinstall from scratch. I have an iPhone.

Do I simply reinstall iTunes and then my phone will sync my PC iTunes back to the way it was?

I'm on the mac side, but I doubt it. Try to recover the data from the disk before you reformat and reinstall. You do have a back up, right?

There are some utilities out there that should let you move tunes from your phone to your iTunes, but I can't guide you more as I'm a mac person.

Do you still have the backup that iTunes took?

I haven't tried syncing tunes from my (iPhone) to iTunes, but to sync apps from the device to the authorized iTunes computer I select the option from the "File" menu.

I doubt it but if i'm wrong, whew... close call eh?

If I'm right, once you rebuild the pc, and jailbreak your phone, set up ssh and just plain old copy files to the phone. mp3, pdf, doesn't matter. i use dtunes as my ipod player. no concerns about librarys and such.

I'm a Mac user but this should work if you have all your apps and music/podcasts/etc in iTunes. (I'm assuming you backup your stuff).

Connect the iPhone. When it says your iPhone isn't synced to this iTunes. Cancel it and right click the iPhone and select backup. After backing up, restore your iPhone and select Use Backup. If you can select your newly created backup, you should be good.

I can still access the drive where iTunes was previously installed but with a reinstalled OS I'll need to reinstall iTunes. Is there a way to transfer my data from my old iTunes files to new?

Copy the whole my music folder to an external hard drive. Then, with the newly reinstalled Itunes, import the library from the external hard drive. Or, you can also just point Itunes to look for the music library on the external hard drive.

YEEHAW!!!! I managed to fix my previous Vista installation so now everything is back to normal. Since I've already done a fresh Vista install on another drive and my previous (and now running) Vista has gone several years without a reinstall, I'm probably going to migrate over to my freshly installed Vista.

That said, at least now I can migrate properly. Since I can now access my old iTunes, what should I do to either back it up or prep it for reinstalling on my other Vista drive?

Back it up then move it.
