Thank you Mr. Hotdog...

...It's always good to learn about 'new' musicians; at least the ones that I'm not familiar with. I've been listening to Bill Evans, as usual, these days. I also have been listening to Gonzalo Rubalcava's recording 'The Blessing'(recorded and mixed at McClear Place, 1991.,Toronto, Canada), especially side two. Sincerely, Jon .

Thanks for the KPasta link Acutus. I really liked the samples from C-ups. Their two from "Live at Fred's" (Fela and Salieu - honouring Fela Kuti and Salieu Suso perhaps?) I especially liked, as well as the East 39th album.

Thanks for your reply Mr. Iluvquarks. Fela Kuti...now there's a name-and music- that I haven't heard for some time. I'm not familiar with the Artist: Salieu Suso. I'll have to source out some of his/her music... Sincerely, Jon .

Not Jazz...

...but, just heard the band Savoy Brown on the radio doing the title track from their album entitled: 'Lookin' in'(1970). The DJ said that they'll be playing this Saturday(night) at the Siver Dollar(in Toronto). Should be good. Sincerely, Jon .

Hey Jon

We didn't get to chat about music at the "other" Xmas party, I guess there was enough "sordid experience" talk to go around...

I'm listening to Dexter Gordon's "Soy Califa" right now. Such tone! I'm pretty into jazz too but listen to all kinds of stuff, all kinds of jazz too, from Louis Armstrong to John Zorn. I'm not big on the so-called "young lions", who are younger players kind of re-hashing the music and sensibility of 1960s jazz.

I like the crazy "outside" stuff sometimes, especially live. If you like weirder stuff I would suggest you check out Don Byron's "Bug Music", just for a larf.

Yeah... Industry 'Party'...Lol...

...bad move for me there...lol...I just had some Dexter Gordon playing the other night. I have a home made compilation of some of his recordings...mostly from the 'One Flight up' and 'Gotham City' albums. I agree to some extent with your observation on a few of the Young Lions coming up these days(re-hashing a previous 'sound'). Although... Wallace Rooney can claim that he is the only Jazz Musician that was mentored, for lack of a better word, by Miles Davis; hence his(Rooney's)sound(I'm listening to his 'Protoype' recording these days). I should keep this short...otherwise, I might lose this post. Thanks for posting, Mr. DATYdude. Sincerely, Jon . (edit: change the word: thread to post in second last sentence...I hate having to write fast...).

Some "Young" Artists

I love Don Byron's Bug Music as well. Sadly, the music won't do so well if the back catalogues consistently outsell new recordings. So, here are a list of some people to check out and thanks to the internet, you can grab samples before buying any cd.

Kevin Mahogany, Brantford Marsalis, Chris Potter, Brad Mehldau

hmm...

I'm not sure that I have heard Don Byron's 'Bug Music'. I have heard Kevin Mahogany. Good singer. These days, I've been enjoying Kurt Elling and Michael Bluble(sounds like: 'Blue-Blay')as the 'new' young lions of Jazz singers. Other 'Young Lions' worth checking out might be Nicholas Payton, who plays trumpet. Branford Marsalis, who plays saxophone, is of course from the famous New Orleans Marsalis Family. Farther Ellis plays piano; Son Wynton plays trumpet, and his younger Brothers Delfeayo and Jason play trombone and drums respectively. Possible website of interest: www.wireimage.com Should keep this short. Thanks for you reply. Sincerely, Jon .

.It's unfortunate that Jazz music is seen, commonly, as 'upscale' or in some other way inaccessable to the 'average' person.
I would rank Opera, Classical, Jazz as 'upscale' in that order. Many see it as snobby music. If it wasn't for my HS teacher, would never be exposure to such enlighten sounds.

Love Louie Armstrong and Sam Cooke.

On occasions, confuse Jazz with upbeat Blues. Sometimes the line is blurb.
