Cliff pressed the stupid button. What the hell is he thinking?

This guy has only played one full year in the NHL and I beleve he is around 28 years old.

They need SCORING.

Watched a few Avalanche games while out west, and he's a good player but they probably payed the max to get him. We'll have to wait and see what other guys get to see if they paid market value.

And how much have you seen him play? Do you really know how good he is?
If he can play 72 games with Colorado i'd say he is good enough to be on the Leafs.

what i hate about this is the guy made 475 grand last year (or something like it) then got 3.5 mill this year? WTF? no way should a guy with minimal experience get such a big jump in pay. Seems like a desperate move to get someone to me. Fuck and I thought Cliff would be smarter than that. Hope I eat my words on this one but I hate such a huge raise on such an unknown dude

It seems that the Leafs got taken advantage of again. Why didn't they sign Michael HANDzuis instead if he is still playing?;)

with all due respect to jeff finger (good for him for getting as much as he could),...

what the hell are the leafs smoking? $3.5 mill per on a 4 year deal for a guy who played his first full season in the NHL as a 28 year old? i find it hard to believe there was a bidding war for his services at that price, or term.

bryan mcabe and pavel kubina are bargains when compared to finger. why are the leafs crying about paying the salaries of mcabe and kubina, then going out and giving a guy who is not even half as talented as either of them a huge deal.

if the leafs are trying to go out and get tavares or hedman in next year's draft, then why throw good money away on these type of players?

Funny Guyroch, I was thinking the same thing.

I don't pretend to know that much about hockey but it does beg the question:

If a fellow goes from 475 K to 3.5 mill. and we haven't heard of him is he either a "sleeper" or did the Leafs just drastically overpay?

How big has the NHL gotton that I don't know who the hell these players are ??? I do think if a player is going to make at a salary level of 3.5 the causal hockey fan should know who he is ... Shouldn't they ???

Wasn't JFJ ran out of town for trading draft picks ( Jamal Mayers a leaf for 3rd round pick ) and dumb long term contracts ( Leafs sign Jeff Finger for 4 year deal ) .... Its not rocket science being a GM but they keep doing stupid moves ) .... How about this Fletch ... Let all the other Dumb GM spend their load and then as the summer ends and players are unsigned you can pick up bargains to one year deals ..
I'll admit I haven't watched as much hockey lately but I never heard of this guy either.

As far as long term contracts, I think 4 years would be considered medium term. Campbell for 8 years and Redden for 6 are definitely long term.

The other thing that makes me wonder is this. When a team tries to re-sign a player the negotiations seem to go on for months. How come these free agents sign long term complex contracts within hours of when teams are allowed to negotiate with them. Or am I mistaken and they can actually negotiate before July 1st but only sign on July 1st. If not it seems kinda fishy to me.

Jeff fucking Finger for 3.5 million?? All of a sudden Kubina doesn't look so bad now.

Throw in Niklas Hagman at $3 mil/season....these signings are a sign of regression, perhaps for the good!@!!

I was at Gretzky's restaurant earlier tonight. I saw Cliff Fletcher having a few drinks with some other brass. He was on his cell phone looking super frustrated.

Everyone was trying to figure out what the problem was. Apparently, Cliff was pissed because he accidentally put an extra zero on Jeff Finger's offer sheet. It was supposed to be for $350,000 per season. That's what you get for letting an old man type up an offer via email!
