Under dark threatening skies in front of the original Nathan's Restaurant on Coney Island, the annual Nathan's Hot Dog Eating contest took place in spite of rumours of cancellation and a reduced crowd, swept away by the rain. ESPN2 stuck it out, and although the contest was late in starting at 2 PM, the contest was broadcasted and lo and behold, the great Joey Chestnut, 39, of Westfield, Indiana and weighing a svelte 230 lbs., inhaled just 62 hot dogs (his previous record was 73 hot dogs) complete with buns to win the annual contest and claim his 16th mustard championship belt.
Earlier in the day, Miko Sudo, 37, weighing just 130 lbs, of Port Richey, Florida, glommed 39 1/2 hot dogs plus buns to claim her ninth pink championship belt.
Congrats to the great Joey Chestnut for his momentous achievement.
Both champs pocketed $10,000 for their efforts.

How long can he keep this up before it starts affecting his health?

He certainly is a freak, the Cool Hand Luke Challenge.

Joey Chestnut beat Sonya Thomas' record of 66 hard boiled eggs by downing 141 hard boiled eggs in October, 2013. Yummy.

141 hard boiled eggs, MOTHER OF GOD! Did he get balsamic vinegar to help the eggs go down or would that have been cheating? There are few food items as delicious as hard boiled eggs dipped in balsamic vinegar.

Lovely Nela tackles the Cool Hand Luke Challenge, she's so sweet when she belches.

I heard someone on Oakley today saying Joey can make up to 500k per year with eating and public appearances .

I may have to try that some time.
Bite the top of the egg off first, it's the yolk with some balsamic vinegar that turns into an explosion of flavour. Sprinkle some garlic salt on it.

Joey Chestnut turns 40 next year, his workout regimen must be extreme. You can't do an eating challenge with flabby abs, in the famous words of Jerry Reed from Smokey and the Bandit you'll "choke and puke".

Joel Hansen and Scott Irwin are both body builders. Pasta challenges are difficult, can't find one with Joey Chestnut.

Now, this is a food challenge. It's a mere 11.5 lb steak plus the trimmings. Yummy. Let's hope Joel can eat it. Otherwise, he will have to pay $400, the price tag.
