I'm not sure a dying lesbian character is enough to win the Oscar. But if the story happens in a nazi death camp OR her lesbian partner is a black girl, who related with Dr. King , she will get the Oscar automatically!!
Tom Hanks won an Oscar for playing a gay man afflicted with AIDS in Philadelphia and another Oscar for playing a mentally challenged man in Forest Gump. Dustin Hoffman won an Oscar for playing a mentally challenged man in Rainman. It never hurts one's Oscar chances to play a character with physical and/or mental challenges and also being gay.

Lord, you guys are funny. I've been a fan of Julienne since her nude scenes in Boogie Nights and Short Cut. I think she deserves a second Oscar (can we skip Meryl Streep just this one time?).
BTW: I think Julienne is a natural redhead.

In that film he plays a closeted professor during the 60's, who's life disintegrates with the death of his clandestine lover. As a coping mechanism he becomes infatuated with one of his students (Nicolas Hoult) - Julianne Moore played his beard. The film got tons of acclaim but no silverware. Hoult, an unknown then, has built quite a career for himself (MM:Fury Road). He could become the next 007 and is currently the pitch man for Jaguar.

Two comments.
1) The actress' name is Julianne Moore, not Julienne.
2) Charlize Theron won an Oscar for her performance in Monster back in 2004. Also playing a very out of character role with a less than glamorous look.

I love Julianne Moore (been told I resemble her a few times). The fact that she does a lot of bisexual/lesbian roles (Chloe, The Hours, Freeheld) makes me like her even more.
Chloe, very under-rated film. Due to Neeson's tragedy, it had to be truncated. But what there was was extremely sexy.
Charlize has done non-glamorous roles in at least 2-3 movies. She said she wants to be known for her acting ability and not her exceedingly good looks.
Also, shot in Toronto.
BTW: You guys probably already know this, Ellen Page is lesbian in real life.
After Mad Max: Fury Road, Charlize is going to have the option of taking on more action films.
Within the next ten years, a change will occur. Julianne Moore will make less films and settle into a dignified semi-retirement. Roles that would have gone to her will go to Ruth Wilson. She recently won an Emmy for The Affair and is building an impressive resume that includes Luther, Locke and Saving Mr. Banks. She is definitely an actor to watch out for.
