ZERO cop presence on roads and ZERO accountability for shit like this in Toronto! It's the fucking wild west my friends and is only getting worse the longer no-one is arrested or held accountable.

Joke I heard about Vancouver drivers. Famous for running red lights, in packs. Guy picks up friend from airport who is visiting Vancouver for the first time. First red light he comes to after leaving the airport, he runs through it. Passenger screams and says " what the fuck are you doing? " .
Guy says, "don't worry. My brother does it all the time. "
This happens a few more times. Finally the guy hits a green light and comes to a complete stop and looks both ways. Passenger asks "what the hell are you doing now?"
Driver says "can't be too careful. My brother lives around here".

No worries. In the next several years all the roads will be bike lanes cause all of these magical subways will be built.

The sad reality is that very few traffic laws are actually being enforced. It's obvious from the number of speeders on the highways, the number of vehicles that have overly tinted windows, an infraction that is very easily identified, and the number of license plates that are either faded, distorted or covered with dark plastic. The cops just don't seem to care.

Exactly! There wouldn't be any budget shortfall in Toronto, if the cops were allowed to simply drive around and hand out tickets to everyone breaking all the laws! Shit... just park your ass on the sidewalk at any intersection and hand out "texting" tickets. No-one pays attention to anyone not in a car... you'd make millions!

Hell... put cameras up at 3-way stop sign intersections and watch the money roll in on all the people who blast through those stop signs without any care. That's a big ticket! And I would be ALL FOR the traffic cops you see in NYC at major intersections yelling at people to move their fucking asses and then not clog intersections. People NEED that these days because they don't have a clue!

Alas... I know this is a wasted rant... I really think we're past the point of no return with traffic in this city. I'll go yell at some clouds now!

I think part of the problem is that the municipal police forces are tasked with enforcing the laws, but the province gets the revenue from the tickets. If they changed the system so that the revenue was at least split between the issuer of the tickets and the province, there would be much more enforcement.

The reason that law enforcement on the road by police cruisers is non existent is that the city has added speed limit cameras which lowers their costs and increases their revenue, usually on school zones. I got nailed on Leslie St. north of Eglinton 64ks in a 50 zone, where everyone drives at least 60ks, received a .letter from the city showing my vehicle license plate and a $93. fine. Can't fight it.
