As there seems to be a lot of MMA fans here. Sad news for all mma fans: http://www.sherdog.com/news/news.asp?n_id=5718. Sakuraba is in the hospital with a brain circulatory condition.
For those unaware of who he is and why he is my favourite fighter, he is:
1. The 170-185 lb man who destroyed the gracie legend at a time when they were deemed unbeatable;
2. the man who pushed Igor Vovchanchyn (considered a top, if not the top, HW/LHW at that time) to a draw (prior to corner stoppage due to fatigue) AFTER a 60 minute showdown with Royce Gracie;
3. the man who beat a possibly prime Belfort (Vitor was coming off a knockout win over Wanderlei and everyone expected him to kill Sakuraba);
4. the guy who beat Metzger, Rampage and Randleman - all top fighters that were at least a weight class above him.
4. The guy brave enough to take on: Arona, Nogueira, Mirko, Wanderlei (3x) - all top 205+ lb men while weighing in/around/less 190 lbs.
All those knockouts from guys much bigger than him has finally taken its toll. I wish him well and send him much love.
